Street Fighter 5 G character reveal inbound — Capcom just changed their profile picture on social media

Here we go, ladies and gentlemen! Capcom has just updated their profile picture on their official Street Fighter social media channels.

While that might not seem like a big deal to those not in the know, FGC regulars know that when we see an updated Street Fighter 5 image on Twitter and Facebook it means that the next DLC character reveal is near by.

Next up on the Street Fighter 5 Season 3 line up is the mysterious newcomer, G. Little is known about the bearded world warrior, but based on his appearance we believe he has some sort of connection to the color gold.

G has scattered gold markings on his arms and face, which some reports say that these markings are in the shape of the seven continents. Capcom's updated profile picture features an image of the world with the continents in gold and a gold background, meaning G's reveal is very likely what's being hinted at here.

The expectation is that the G reveal trailer will air during EVO 2018 this weekend. In the past, we've seen a trailer during the Street Fighter 5 top 8, so all eyes are currently aimed there.

With the previous two Street Fighter 5 DLC characters, Falke and Cody, the Street Fighter Twitter account put out small clues and bits of information about each character leading up to their big reveal. Chances are we'll be seeing something similar for G during the next few days, and hopefully this means we'll finally learn more about the character.

Since the initial glimpse of him in the Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition opening cinematic, there have been a lot of theories about what G might be all about. One of the earliest guesses is that G is actually Greg from the Blood Roar series — due to their similar appearances and Greg's ability to transform into a gorilla and the gorilla character seen as a part of Neo Shadaloo in Ed's story mode ending.

Others think G might actually be Gill in disguise, and G's story mode costume sees him dressed just like Street Fighter 3 Third Strike's Q, meaning he could either be the fellow mysterious fighter or be somehow related to him.

One major point of interest about G is the fact that he has "presidential" traits. During Arcade Edition's intro video, we see G pull off the Uncle Sam "I want you!" finger point, and he also has a striking similarity to the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

Based on the line up of Season 3 so far, and Capcom's tendency for having at least one grappler style character each season, some believe G might fit that role. It's also worth noting that Abraham Lincoln was a prominent wrestler in his day, so perhaps inspiration was drawn from there.

The only other glimpse of G we've gotten lately is his appearance on one of the Street Fighter 30th anniversary tarot cards that come as a part of the collector's edition of the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection in Japan. G is given the title of "The Fool," which might be a hint at his personality — leaning more on the jokester end of the spectrum and not being quite as serious in the way he carries himself.

One thing's for sure, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono will be in attendance at EVO and just last night hinted at what is likely the G announcement.

This weekend is going to be a doozy for fighting game fans, so be sure to stay tuned here at EventHubs all weekend long for EVO 2018 results and the latest news.
