Street Fighter references spotted in new Cuphead game
Two bosses perform classic Shoto taunts
Cuphead is a new run and gun game that saw its official release today on Xbox One and PC. With an art style modeled after classic 1930's era animation, this title sees two characters named Cuphead and Mugman battling to save their own souls from the devil.
So, why are we talking about Cuphead here on EventHubs today? No, it's not because I'm personally excited about it. Apparently, there are some fighting game references that can be found in-game.
EventHubs user Dude130 pointed out to us that two of the bosses found in Cuphead actual perform classic Street Fighter taunts before they start the battle. The large, boxing frogs known as Ribby and Croaks actually pull off poses we've seen from Akuma and Ken before the fight starts.
Not only that, but in Cuphead's basic tutorial we learn that players can acquire "Super Cards" that give them access to an "EX Move." And come to think of it, the EX Move for the main protagonist really does look like a Hadoken...
It seems that someone on the game's development team is a fan of fighting games, as these tidbits are a bit too extreme to be coincidence.
You can check out the taunts in the GIFs below, and the video can be found after the jump. Footage courtesy of 8-BitRyan.

The battle starts about 5 minutes into the video.
