It has since been removed

So, you've probably seen this floating around the internet this week. A retail listing for a "Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition" recently surfaced online, but was was quickly removed.

Originally spotted by NeoGAF user oldmario, the page on UK gaming site ShopTo contained some interesting information.

Though the description of the PlayStation 4 title seemed to be typical copy from the original release of Street Fighter 5, a specific release date and price were divulged. According to the listing, the game is set for release on January 16, 2018 with a price tag of £31.85 (roughly $43 USD).

Based on the "Arcade Edition" subtitle, we suspect this could be the rumored "Super Street Fighter 5" update to the game. In classic Capcom fashion, this would likely add new characters, game mechanics, and content all wrapped up in a new package for players to pick up and dive in.

Typically, new game releases occur on Tuesdays and SF5:AE's supposed release also falls on one, so if this is indeed a fake the creator of the listing clearly went the extra mile. As VG24/7 reports, though, ShopTo generally isn't in the market of listing fake games.

Last year, we saw the start of Street Fighter 5 Season 2 at the end of December. So, if there's a new version of the game coming, it's likely to drop around that same time, making a January release plausible.

Of course, none of this is confirmed at this point in time, and someone generating a fake listing for Arcade Edition could easily put these details together based on what we know. We recommend taking this information with a fairly large grain of salt.

Capcom is currently attending Tokyo Game Show 2017 in Japan, and if Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition is a real thing, TGS would be the perfect place to announce it. Stay tuned here at EventHubs for the latest developments.
