In honor of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's release today, Capcom has announced a new tournament featuring the latest versus series title. The Battle for the Stones will pit 16 players against each other, and the Infinity Stones will play a large role in the competition.

Seven Marvel vs. Capcom EVO champions and nine new qualifiers will throw down at the Battle for the Stones Finals in Anaheim, CA on December 9-10, 2017. These players will be competing for a one-of-a-kind trophy and over $30,000 in prize money.

There will be six Infinity Stone qualifying tournaments leading up to the finals at which the winner of each will be awarded one of the stones. Those who wield a stone will be given access to a "special tournament rule-bending power" that they can use once during the finals.

"Each Infinity Stone power will be revealed at its corresponding Infinity Stone Tournament," the Capcom Unity blog reads. "Be wary, for if you lose the fight with a Stone in hand, you’ll need to hand it over to the winner of the match and return to being a mere mortal."

Beyond the six qualifying tournaments, there will be three online qualifying events (not featuring Infinity Stones) that will round out the top 16. These events will be held for EU, LATAM and NA regions.

The seven EVO champions competing at the finals include Jay "Viscant" Snyder, Ryan "SPY|Filipino Champ" Ramirez, Job "Flocker" Figueroa, FOX|Justin Wong, Nick "KaneBlueRiver" Gonzalez, Chris "EG|NYChrisG" Gonzalez, and Ryan "SPY|RyanLV" Romero.
