Capcom has opened up a new character popularity poll today. Fans can now head over to the Shadaloo CRI and vote for their favorite Street Fighter combatant.

There are numerous characters to choose from here, ranging from series mainstays such as Ryu and Sagat, all the way to more obscure choices, like Captain Sawada.

You don't have to sign in to your account in order to vote. Those who participate can share their choice on social media via the "Psycho Share" feature on the site.

The official poll will run from today through November 5th. We can expect to see the results on Thursday, January 16th.

While a popularity poll for Street Fighter characters could just be a simple, fun experiment for Capcom, this could also be another tool in deciding what characters to add to Street Fighter 5.

For the most part, gaming companies don't use popularity polls as the sole deciding factor for which characters get added post launch. However, the results are typically a strong indicator of what new fighters fans want to see, and they do have some influence.

Street Fighter 5's Season 3 roster is likely finalized by now, but perhaps this poll could be collecting data for future seasons. Back in March of 2013, Capcom released the results for a similar popularity poll in which Ryu took first in the overall world ranking.

Anyway, which character did you vote for in the popularity poll? Let us know in the comments below.
