Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's DLC characters will be tournament legal at Battle for the Stones events, regardless of release time

We could see Sigma, Black Panther, and Monster Hunter as early as this weekend

Standard FGC tournament protocol dictates that there be a waiting period (usually one to two weeks) before players can compete using newly released DLC characters. This rule is enforced in order to keep things fair, as unfamiliarity on both sides could have a strong effect on match results.

The Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite "Battle for the Stones" tournament series is currently underway, and with the game's first three DLC characters being released earlier this week, a new ruling has been enacted.

According to the official MvCI Twitter page, all of the game's DLC characters will be tournament legal at Battle for the Stones events, regardless of their release time. This mean that there is no waiting period for players who want to compete using the newest fighters.

The official tournament rules still state that DLC characters must be released seven days prior to a tournament taking place. With the tweet going out just yesterday, it is likely that this is an update to the old rule.

As of right now, Black Panther, Sigma, and Monster Hunter are the newest combatants to join Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The next Battle for the Stones tournament is taking place this weekend at the Red Bull Proving Grounds in Chicago, Illinois, so we could be seeing them in play just four days after their release.

We will be seeing players compete for the Power Stone this time, and the stone's effect is set to be revealed at the event.
