The latest in the BlazBlue series will pit different gaming franchises against each other in 2v2 battles. BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is set for release sometime next year, and will come along with new mechanics and systems for players to learn.

A playable demo of the game was showcased at New York Comic-Con last week, and players we excited to finally get their hands on it. Top BlazBlue player PG|SKD happened to be in attendance, and managed to grab a couple of photos of the on-site controls and game mechanics explanations.

We see standard movement options that BlazBlue players will be familiar with, as well as a breakdown of the HUD. A new bar called the Cross Gauge is also present, which dictates players' ability to utilize tag moves.

Like Persona 4 Arena, there is also a "smart combo" system here that lets players hit one button repeatedly to initiate a combo. Usually, this is a specific combo (meaning you'll get the same sequence every time) that isn't really optimized and more for beginners to understand how the system works.

Cross Tag Battle also has a parry maneuver, "Reject Guard" (which is essentially pushblock), and a "Cross Combo" feature that brings your partner out to attack the point character with you.

There seems to be quite a bit to this game, and so far we have only seen seven playable characters revealed.
