Sagat headed to Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition? One of today's screenshots of the game could be a big clue

Arcade Mode ending 'comic panel' also shows the fan-favorite fighter

Earlier today, Capcom made their big announcement: Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition is coming on January 16th, 2018. We were given information on the highly anticipated Arcade Mode, which will be a part of the update.

Arcade Mode will let players choose from six different categories, each featuring a set amount of battles with characters from various games in the series. These paths will range from Street Fighter 1 all the way to Street Fighter 5, but it's the SF1 category that has piqued our interest.

One screenshot shared today shows the Arcade Mode menu, which notes how many battles each category has. The Street Fighter 1 section consists of four battles, however, there are only three characters currently in Street Fighter 5 who made their debut in the original title.

Even considering the potential for characters doubling up -- such as Ryu appearing in multiple categories because he appeared in multiple games -- there still aren't enough characters to fill out the four battles.

As it stands right now, the only characters in Street Fighter 5 that originated from Street Fighter 1 are Ryu, Ken, and Birdie. So, that last slot would have to go to a warrior we haven't seen added to the game yet.

The most prominent character from Street Fighter 1 who hasn't joined the Street Fighter 5 battle is Sagat. Other characters such as Adon and Gen are popular in their own right, but no character remaining from that game has the legacy and following that Sagat does.

Fans were shocked to see the Shadaloo boss not make it onto Street Fighter 5's core roster, and since the game's launch the demand to see him return has been high.

The blog post on the Shadaloo CRI today revealed that there will be Arcade Mode endings for each character in each path. These will come in the form of comic book panel-style artwork.

For the example featured, of course, we see Sagat in what appears to be Ryu's ending.

In the past, we've heard rumors about Sagat's potential inclusion in Street Fighter 5, and what better way to kick off the launch of a revamped Street Fighter 5 than with the king himself?

From what I'm seeing here, I'd say his return is looking likelier than ever.
