A few key players from Marvel's new Avengers: Infinity War trailer haven't joined Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite yet

Let's take a closer look for potential hints at future DLC

Marvel Studios has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming blockbuster film, Avengers: Infinity War. Many of the universe's greatest heroes will band together to face off against the super powerful Thanos as he aims to collect the Infinity Stones.

Today's showcase featured a veritable who's who of mainstay super heroes and villains, and it doesn't take long to realize that most of the major characters shown in the trailer are currently playable (or will be playable shortly) in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Back in May, Marvel Infinite producer Mike Evans spoke about the game's ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though there is no direct connection between the two, the development team has looked to the MCU for ideas.

"It’s not based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe," Evans said. "We take a lot of inspiration from the cinematic universe, but the game is a completely original universe."

The Infinity War trailer is a bit of an eye opener as to just how much inspiration was taken from the MCU. Seeing all of these characters together in one place, you'll notice that the amount of them who made it into the game is quite high.

Spoiler alert: I am going to be talking about things shown in the Avengers: Infinity War trailer beyond this point. If you're one who does not want to know the details, you'll want to steer clear now.

Of the 19 main heroes / villains who made appearances in the trailer, 12 of them are currently in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. This means 1/3 of Marvel Infinite's 36-character roster is featured in today's preview of the film.

Let's take a look at the list:

Avengers: Infinity War trailer characters currently in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

- Iron Man
- The Hulk
- Dr. Strange
- Thor
- Black Widow
- Spider-Man
- Thanos
- Black Panther
- Captain America
- Winter Soldier
- Gamora
- Rocket Raccoon

Considering the amount of representation here, we might be able to look to the other prominent characters in the trailer -- who aren't currently in the game -- as potential DLC for MvCI.

The adopted son of Asgardian King Odin, Loki is often referred to as the God of Mischief. As a member of the Frost Giants race, Loki harnesses many of their abilities, but not their stature.

Loki's traits include super strength, speed, durability, and stamina, as well as genius-level intelligence. He is also extremely proficient in magic wielding.

Sam Wilson is a former United States Air Force pararescue airman who retired from the service and went on to help veterans that suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. While at the VA, he met Captain America, and ultimately landed a spot in the Avengers.

Wilson is equipped with the EXO-7 Falcon -- a military-designed winged harness used for highly sensitive missions -- and with this dons the moniker of Falcon. Naturally, he has the ability of flight, but he can also fire homing missiles, use the wings as offensive and defensive weapons, is an expert marksman, martial artist, acrobat, tactician, and pilot.

Vision and Scarlet Witch

An android with a synthetic vibranium body designed by Ultron and Helen Cho, Vision was reprogrammed by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner using the remnants of Stark's personal A.I. J.A.R.V.I.S..

He wields the Mind Stone, and his powers include superhuman durability, energy blasts, armor creation (via the synthetic skin), and density manipulation -- which allows him to change his own density and leads to super strength, flight, and more.

Wanda Maximoff hails from the Eastern European country of Sokovia. In order to help their worn-torn homeland, Wanda and her brother Pietro agreed to undergo experiments from HYDRA, who promised to give the siblings powers to help them fight.

Also known as Scarlet Witch, Wanda utilizes Psionic Energy to fire off powerful blasts in combat. She can also create force fields, levitate, use telepathy, and telekenesis.

Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis

As mentioned previously, two members of the Guardians of the Galaxy are playable right now in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. We have yet to see the other members added.

Drax, also known as Drax the Destroyer, is a former intergalactic criminal turned hero. This towering brute is an expert in combat who has superhuman strength, durability, agility, and a regenerative healing factor.

Mantis is an empathic insectoid being who developed into a humanoid from the larvae stage and ultimately ended up as one of the Guardians of the Galaxy. She has the ability to detect a person's emotions through touch -- and can change those emotions, to some degree -- can induce immediate sleep, and has enhanced durability.

Peter Jason Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, is the half-human, half-Celestial leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He is an expert marksman, pilot, thief, and combatant, and of course, he has enhanced durability due to his Celestial heritage.

Of these seven characters, there have been rumors that Star-Lord has a good chance at being in the next wave of DLC characters for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a May 2018 release, and with MvCI's first six DLC characters all being available by the end of this year (the final three join next week), Capcom could potentially begin releasing more fighters alongside the film's launch.

If that happens, it is not outside the realm of possibility to see characters like Loki, Drax, and the others enter the fray.
