A 'President' character is rumored to potentially be in Street Fighter 5 Season 3, turns out such a fighter could have been in the game at launch

Let's take a look back at some of the other characters that didn't make the cut

With 2018 fast approaching, speculation on who we might see added to the Street Fighter 5 roster is everywhere. We've heard a lot of different things over this past year, but it seems that the most consistently reported fighters to join in Season 3 are Sakura and Sagat.

Without official word, we can't know for sure, but Capcom has shared a few hints at both. This leaves four characters -- assuming the company sticks with the six-a-year DLC plan -- unknown.

Earlier this month, EventHubs user and credible leaker flowtron commented on the potential Season 3 roster. Though they note that their connection to Capcom is no more, flowtron offers a potential DLC line up for the next season.

"[The] Season 3 cast probably involves Sagat, Sakura, Blanka, mayor, another bae, and president," flowtron writes. What's interesting here is that a "fighting president" was actually designed by Capcom, but ultimately scrapped before Street Fighter 5's launch.

Now, flowtron could have easily known this and simply threw that character choice in there without much information backing it. However, considering their accuracy in the past, let's entertain the idea and look back at some of the character ideas that didn't make it into the game.

Back in mid-2016, the Shadaloo C.R.I. released a blog post unveiling character designs that could have potentially been included on the Street Fighter 5 launch roster, but were ultimately cut. Let's kick this off with, you guessed it, the "Fighting President."

Fighting President

Not much information on what this character might be like was shared, but the blog notes that the idea actually came up during the Street Fighter 4 era as well. All we know is that the fighter was designed by Akiman and has wild hair.

Fighting Literary Master

This fighter is an old man who would constantly grumble to himself. It's clear that Capcom had intellect in mind for this character, rather than brute strength.

Clumsy Cutie

A clumsy fighter whose clothes become more tattered as she battles -- due to her clumsiness. She would use tools when fighting, and this idea came about when the team was designing Laura.

Miss Babo

Another idea that sprouted when designing Laura, this character "understood the hardships that Laura had when she was born." Though she was given a name, the idea was ultimately cut.

Soccer Fighter

This character was intended to be the male representation for Brazil in the game. Unfortunately, he was cut because of his similarities to Roberto from Rival Schools.

Gen's Disciple

This dark character is a young, ambitious warrior who learned Gen's Assassin's Fist and continued its legacy. The blog notes that he was meant to do battle with Necalli.

The Teacher

This idea came about during the design process for F.A.N.G.. The team was looking for a character that fought using dark weapons and poison hands.

Though he was a popular choice, he just wasn't evil enough.

Prototype Shadaloo Soldier

This design of a protoype Shadaloo soldier was inspired by the Alien vs. Predator franchise, but did not make the cut.

The blog notes that even though these fighters weren't in the game at launch, "maybe they'll make an appearance somewhere!?" Perhaps that somewhere is Street Fighter 5 Season 3.

Thanks to EventHubs user SUPERVERITECH for pointing us in the direction of this blog entry.
