Du "Liquid|NuckleDu" Dang just shook the entire Street Fighter community with a tweet announcing that he'll likely not be attending Capcom Cup this year.

This comes as a total surprise as Dang won the event last year and thus holds the title of reigning champion and as such has been qualified for the entirety of the year.

He's participated in Pro Tour events throughout the 2017 season, and garnered enough points for a third place global finish. Du's name is consistently brought up in discussion of the top Street Fighter 5 players in the world along with the likes of PG|Punk and FOX|Tokido.

It seems he already reached out to both Capcom and his sponsor, Liquid, before taking to social media with this news.

At this point we do not know the motivation for this decision, but wish all the best to Du in both his personal and professional life. We'll update this story with more details should they become available.

Capcom Cup is set to play out in just under two weeks in Anaheim, California on the weekend of December 8-10. You'll see the full tweet in then image below.
