Capcom Cup 2017 is drawing closer by the day, and a lot of top level players are ready to test their skills against eachother at the grand event.

In an effort to build hype for this, we've decided to reach out to the qualified Capcom Cup players, and will be bringing you interviews with as many as possible of the players set to participate in the event.

Next up is one of Japan's top players in both Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 5, Gachikun. In this interview, he talks about the difference between playing in Japan and abroad, his hopes for Arcade Edition, chances at Capcom Cup and more.

Here's a snippet to get you started.

MajinTenshinhan: What do you think is the most important part for high-level players from Street Fighter 4 to get skilled at Street Fighter 5?

Gachikun: I personally think that that the more you enjoy the game, the more serious you can get with it.

If you're not having fun, you won't be able to play it for longer periods, and maintaining your motivation will be difficult.

It's obviously different from person to person, but that's what I think.

Continue below for the full interview.

MajinTenshinhan: It's fairly common internationally as well, but especially in Asia, everyone seems to think that Rashid is really good.

How do you feel Rashid compares to other characters in Season 2?

Gachikun: Compared to Season 1, the current Rashid has a lot of tools to shut down his opponent, like his EX Whirlwind, and strong normal attacks which got further improved due to system changes, so he can keep his opponents locked down in the corner.

Against characters who don't have any invincible moves, he forces them to keep blocking and they have no choice but to do something crazy to try and get out of there.

Besides that, Rashid is also much better at getting out of the corner than other characters. He's a character that can easily put himself at an advantage but is never at that much of a disadvantage.

MajinTenshinhan: You used Sagat in Street Fighter 4 and are now using Rashid in Street Fighter 5. What do you look for when choosing a character in a fighting game?

Gachikun: I haven't used any characters except Sagat and Rashid since I started Street Fighter 4, but I think they're both fun and both feel like characters that you're rewarded for putting proper time in to.

So with that in mind, I'd say I look for characters that can keep my motivation to play up and are fun to use.

MajinTenshinhan: You've been showing up to a lot of overseas tournaments this year. Do you think there's any particular difference between players in Japan and players abroad?

Gachikun: I think that players overseas, compared to players in Japan, have no hesitation in their actions.

For example, thinking of the disadvantaged position you'll be in if you throw out a Shoryuken and it doesn't hit... Or boldly going for a command grab.

I can get pretty scared in situations like that and stop doing things or go into defensive mode, and I feel like players overseas push forward on that and take control of the matches by doing so.

MajinTenshinhan: Next January, Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition is coming out. What are you hoping to see in this new version?

Gachikun: If we're talking about the cast, I think that Rashid is a fairly strong character. So, I'm expecting him to get nerfed, but I'm not too concerned about that.

But, as I talked about in my earler response, I don't want the characters' fun factor to disappear, so I hope he can remain a fun character like he's been up until now even if he gets nerfed.

Also, in this version, the lower tier characters really can't do anything against the higher tier characters, so I'd like them to balance that out so any character can win with the right amount of effort put in.

MajinTenshinhan: What do you think about your chances at Capcom Cup 2017?

Gachikun: Out of all the participants in the tournament, the one I think will be the most difficult is CYG|Daigo, and I'm going up against him in my very first match, so it all depends on if I can win that or not.

If I can win that, I think I can keep my momentum going and maybe even win the whole thing. I lost to him at the Hong Kong Capcom Pro Tour event, so in order to get my revenge I've been practicing a lot and want to challenge him properly.

Huge thanks to Gachikun for participating in our interview series and we wish you the best of luck at Capcom Cup 2017. Please look forward to more interviews in the coming days.
