Capcom Cup 2017 is drawing closer by the day, and a lot of top level players are ready to test their skills against eachother at the grand event.

In an effort to build hype for this, we've decided to reach out to the qualified Capcom Cup players, and will be bringing you interviews with as many as possible of the players set to participate in the event.

Next up is RZR|Xian, who in this interview talks about his Ibuki switch in Season 2, F.A.N.G's issues, the new cast of characters in Season 2 and more.

Here's a snippet to get you started.

MajinTenshinhan: You really made a splash at the beginning of this year's season at Final Round 20 where you won with Ibuki, who wasn't considered good at all last season.

It seems like this inspired a lot of people, especially in Asia, to pick her up. How good do you think Ibuki is right now, and how does it feel to be such a trendsetter with a character? You even played her a bit back in Season 1.

RZR|Xian: I feel that Ibuki is definitely in the top 3 position right now. I didn't really think much of setting a trend, at that point in time I just wanted to win, so I decided I wanted to pick a stronger character.

Continue below for the full interview.

MajinTenshinhan: Speaking of trendsetting, back in Season 1 you were one of very few players who used F.A.N.G as well, although that didn't inspire nearly as many to follow in your footsteps.

The character has seen even less usage this season. How do you think Capcom should go about making F.A.N.G more appealing to play, so that he might start to shine at a tournament level?

RZR|Xian: I think that he needs a better V-Skill and V-Trigger to be able to compete with the current cast now.

MajinTenshinhan: Perhaps the biggest shock Capcom delivered for Season 2 was when they announced that all 5 characters after Akuma would be brand new fighters who had never been playable before, which met a lot of controversy and divided opinions.

Now, after we've experienced all these new characters, how do you feel about this decision on Capcom's part? Do you like Kolin, Ed, Abigail, Menat and Zeku?

RZR|Xian: I actually kind of like all of the DLC characters this season.

I feel that all of the characters have long learning curves and are interesting to play, especially Menat.

MajinTenshinhan: You've always been active in multiple different fighting games, perhaps most notably in King of Fighters 13 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Are you playing any other fighting games actively right now, and are there any coming up in the future you're looking forward to?

RZR|Xian: I actually spent quite a bit of time playing Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Injustice 2 at different frames of time.

I find it hard to juggle between so many games now, as Street Fighter 5 has become really competitive at the moment. The next title I probably want to try would be Dragon Ball FighterZ.

MajinTenshinhan: With Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition coming up soon, what are you hoping to see in this new revision to the game?

RZR|Xian: I hope that every character has a V-Trigger that's equally strong. I find the V-Triggers for characters in Season 2 to be really unbalanced.

MajinTenshinhan: How do you feel about your chances going into Capcom Cup 2017?

RZR|Xian: I don't feel like there's anyone I would definitely lose to this year, so I think I have a chance going in this time.

Huge thanks to RZR|Xian for participating in our interview series and we wish you the best of luck at Capcom Cup 2017. Please look forward to more interviews in the coming days.
