Fighting game fans have been following the development of Arika's mysterious fighting title since it was revealed to be more than an April Fool's joke. Today, Akira Nishitani from Arika, also known as NIN, has some big news on the project.

Firstly, an official name for the game has been decided upon. We will no longer be calling it "Arika's mysterious fighting game," as it is now titled Fighting EX Layer.

We also learned that the game is coming to PlayStation 4, and that a beta test will be ran beginning December 11th. There will be six playable characters: Kairi, Garuda, Skullomania, Darun Mister, Allen Snider, and Shirase, and the beta will last for two weeks.

This beta test will immediately follow the conclusion of the PlayStation Experience, however, a playable demo of the game will be available at the event. If you're attending, you will be able to try Fighting EX Layer out before the beta begins.

Nishitani notes that the company aims to test the network match function around the world with this beta, and encourages fans to participate and provide honest feedback.

In the PlayStation blog entry, Akira also provides new information on the game's Gougi system. This game mechanic is a very deep and exciting addition to combat system, according to the creator.

"When the idea first came about, I brainstormed various Gougi, which combinations would work well, and what the matches would be like," Nishitani said. "Trying to imagine all of the possibilities, I got a feeling that 'This game is going to be interesting!'"

The Gougi System in Fighting EX Layer is designed to change the flow of matches and provide players with different ways to play depending on their selection. Though it's just an idea at the moment, Arika would like to add new Gougi at "certain fixed intervals" over the course of the game's lifespan.

Arika and PlayStation have released a new trailer featuring Shirase. You can find it below.
