A top player's possible involvement points to these photos being real

A couple of interesting photos recently surfaced that seem to give us our first glimpse at Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's upcoming DLC.

It's unclear where these images originated from -- we first saw them in an unnamed Imgur gallery and from various Twitter users -- but they have certainly piqued the interest of the community. One of the images shows Venom in training mode, while the other features the full character select screen complete with the remaining three DLC fighters.

From what we can see of Venom, he does not appear to be a big body character -- like players expected. Fans note that he dons the Anti-Venom look, although some speculate that this is just an alternate color for him.

We also see what appears to be an alternate costume for Jedah. There are still 12 premium costumes set to be released for the remainder of the launch roster, so if this photo is the real deal, this costume is likely showing Jedah's premium.

The character select screen here includes Sigma, Black Panther, and Monster Hunter, the game's first three DLC fighters, as well as Venom, Black Widow, and Winter Soldier. The latter three combatants are not currently in the game, but are expected to be released by the end of the year.

There have been some very convincing fakes posted in recent years, so there's a chance that these images aren't authentic. However, one Twitter user spotted something that is leading many fans to believe that they're valid.

In the background of the photos, we see a curtain that has a pattern with wavy lines on it. MechaMacGyver on Twitter noticed that similar curtains can be seen in a photo featuring prominent Marvel vs. Capcom series players Ryan "SPY|FilipinoChamp" Ramirez and Michael "IFC|Yipes" Mendoza.

The Bud Light All-Stars jersey hanging in the background seems to suggest that the room is FChamp's (considering his involvement with the company).

Based on the observation, the Twitter-sphere is concluding that Ramirez may have been given early access to the game's upcoming content. About a week before the game's launch, Capcom gave top players in the fighting game community copies of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, so the idea isn't completely outside of the realm of possibility.

Naturally, concerns can quickly arise from top players who regularly compete in tournaments getting the latest content before everyone else. But much like everything in life, there are pros and cons.

On the one hand, early access can give players an unfair advantage in tournaments, which becomes even more of an issue when competing for prize money. On the other hand, top players dissecting new content can help companies locate issues (both in balance and technical) and get them fixed faster.

Despite where you stand on the matter, this potential look at Venom and the character select screen is definitely interesting. We'll be seeing the Capcom Pro Tour North America Regional Finals take place this weekend, and the Capcom Cup / PlayStation Experience will follow in early December, both of which are great opportunities for Capcom to make official reveals for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's three remaining DLC characters.
