Capcom Cup 2017 is drawing closer by the day, and a lot of top level players are ready to test their skills against eachother at the grand event.

In an effort to build hype for this, we've decided to reach out to the qualified Capcom Cup players, and will be bringing you interviews with as many as possible of the players set to participate in the event.

Next up is the #1 placer on this year's Capcom Pro Tour leaderboard, 2nd placer at EVO and all-around favorite to win most tournaments this year - PG|Punk. In this interview, he talks about how he approaches the other games he plays, his opinion that Rashid is the best character in Street Fighter 5, his potential rematch against FOX|Tokido and more.

Here's a snippet to get you started.

MajinTenshinhan: Although you weren't exactly an unknown name before, you really exploded onto the scene in 2017 with victory after victory, as well as utilizing several different characters at a top level. What do you think it was that made you rise up so high so suddenly?

PG|Punk: To be honest, I actually do not know how I've risen up. I just played online, so I guess that could be the reason, haha.

Continue below for the full interview.

MajinTenshinhan: You don't just play Street Fighter 5, you've had high placings in both Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Injustice 2 as well.

How do you divide your time when practicing multiple games, and are there any other games on the horizon you're interested in picking up competitively?

PG|Punk: I don't practice Injustice 2 ever, I just play it in tournaments, haha. But I will mostly play a lot when the game is released, then stop and just watch videos and mostly just steal tech from people who use my characters, haha.

I'm interested in picking up the new BlazBlue tag game, it looks super cool and fun.

MajinTenshinhan: There was a lot of buzz a while back when you made a tier list and said that Rashid was the best character in the whole game. Do you still think he's the best, and could you share with us some of your reasons why you think (or thought) so?

PG|Punk: I still think Rashid is the best in the game. It took everyone a while, but now they're all starting to see why I said that, but I mostly think he's so good because he can just do whatever he wants whenever he wants.

His corner carry is just too ridiculous. As soon as the match says "Round 1, Fight" you are in the corner whether you block or get hit, which is ridiculous.

MajinTenshinhan: Perhaps the most exciting Street Fighter 5 set so far in the game's lifespan was the EVO 2017 Grand Finals where you faced FOX|Tokido, and unfortunately lost after a fierce battle.

As far as I know, there's been no rematch between the two of you in tournament since. Do you think you've figured out how to beat him for the next time you match up against eachother?

PG|Punk: I'm not completely sure if I've figured out how to beat FOX|Tokido, but we will see if we play again soon.

MajinTenshinhan: With the grand rebranding of the game as Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition next year, what are you hoping to see Capcom add, remove or change about the game?

PG|Punk: I just want to see some returning characters, damage lowered and also all throw loops removed.

MajinTenshinhan: How do you feel about your chances going into Capcom Cup 2017?

PG|Punk: I feel like I could take Capcom Cup. I've been super happy with how I've been playing after Canada Cup, so we'll see how it goes.

Huge thanks to PG|Punk for participating in our interview series and we wish you the best of luck at Capcom Cup 2017. Please look forward to more interviews in the coming days.
