Injustice 2 receiving top marks for visuals and single player content, but loot system can be a bit frustrating

Injustice 2 has made it to consoles and seems to be being received in a very popular light.

We've made the rounds and read the reviews from the likes of IGN, GameSpot, Kotaku and Eurogamer, all of whom are exceptionally enthusiastic about the game. Reviewers can't seem to get enough of Injustice 2's visuals and story mode (a facet of fighting games NetherRealm Studios has set the bar for in recent years).

The only real issue that seems to continually come up is in the game's gear system. The system itself is fun to use and a welcomed component, but the randomized divvying of loot seems to be a little annoying for some.

If you're on the fence about nabbing NRS' latest fighter, check out the reviews below to see if they can't persuade you in one direction or the other.

GameSpot

The good: "With AI battles, online and local versus matches, the diverse and ever-changing Multiverse, and an impressive story mode, Injustice 2 offers numerous ways of engaging with its characters and testing your abilities without feeling repetitive."

"NetherRealm has delivered a fighting game that can be enjoyed by new players and pros alike in ways that go beyond pure competition. It's a bar that every fighting game should meet, but one that has up until now seemed out of reach."

The bad: Convoluted currency system overcomplicates gear management.

Kotaku

The good: Story and single player content is top notch with superb facial animation and voice acting; battles are intense and exciting. "Where follow-ups to traditional comic book events often fail, Injustice 2 is a worthy successor to the original in almost every way."

The bad: Gear system is too complicated, and players have to rely too much on random chance to get what they want.

IGN

The good: Multiverse mode offers hours of play potential. "More single-player content than I’ve ever seen in a fighting game at launch and an unrivaled combo system that is a sheer joy once you master it."

The bad: Switching characters in the story is frustrating, and many of the characters aren't well portrayed in it. "Little to love about the way the heroes are presented... a Joker that has to go down in history as one of the most tone deaf and misguided takes on the Clown Prince of Crime."

"Grim and joyless "what-if" story line."

The good: A visual triumph with "some of the best character faces ever seen in a fighting game." Particularly impressive story, very obvious attention to the little details and touches. "Injustice 2 is the complete fighting game package, and it's one I hope other developers in the genre take notice of."

The bad: Gear system and loot boxes can be frustratingly random. Often offers loot not pertinent to your character(s).
