eita for me was the best ken in sf v but they've neutered him where you can't be as bold with him anymore. a damage reduction would have been fine but give him more of a chance to get in and stay in. its the whole part of his game.

I swear to god, we are going to have a chun-li main army coming now every thread to say how they got gutted and how life is unfair.

It is gonna be a sad display : (

#22
Nevran said on March 16, 2017 at 10:57 p.m.

I think Luffy and Smug have really high chances of taking their group (Is it the top two or the first one that get 'qualified'?), since Luffy beat Smug, if they continu to win, Luffy should be 'above' Smug as he beat him in their confrontation.

Punk is honestly just plain impressive, if he beat F-champ tommorow, I doubt anyone will be able to top him in this tornament except a run back from knuckle Du/Momochi. Only K-Brad and F-champ can save the world from this guy being undefeated.

Also congrats for F-champ as he always make great performance with Dhalsim and congrats to K-Brad for working so much and still getting place high.

Cammy may be top tiers but the dude just really work.

"Chun's still good." Lol

And to think the majority of her matchups are going to get even worse in S2.5.

#27
Anders said on March 17, 2017 at 8:26 a.m.

There were 3 Chuns, 3 Kens, 3 Balrogs, 2.5 Guiles and 1.5 Mikas in top 64 in Final Round, so she looks fine to me. That's really not very strong proof of how good a character is, but it's still 100 times stronger than looking at how one single player is doing.

#28
doctajoe said on March 17, 2017 at 8:56 a.m.

Except all the top Chuns are doing poorly season 2. MOV didn't make it out of final round pools, nuki got mopped at topanga, go1 got mopped in round 2 of topanga, ricki losing everywhere.

It's amazing how "ryu is dead" or "Nash is dead" because daigo and infiltration say so, but when MOV, Go1, Humanbomb and Ricki say Chun's weak now, that's ignored.

#29
Hunterg6060 said on March 17, 2017 at 9:29 a.m.

thank you, people just don't see it. Chun is done for, she's not coming back, she's low mid tier or lower now.

Green016 said on March 17, 2017 at 10:06 a.m.

Why did Danke and FourWude get invited to this? Two wasted spots right there.

#31
mastajman21 said on March 17, 2017 at 10:11 a.m.

why are you calling out danke but not ricky, shes doing better. If were talking about wasted spot ricky is number 1

#32
CODYYY said on March 17, 2017 at 10:15 a.m.

when danke is higher on the table than you... ouch

i am not gonna call it a fluke. but ricky is no where near as good as she used to be. hardly even make a splash last year with top tier chun.

#33
thisRalf said on March 17, 2017 at 10:50 a.m.

Funny things about stats, you can use them to prove anything.

If you skew the data in a way that favors you. Everything you said is pretty much wrong.

#34
keebler said on March 17, 2017 at 10:52 a.m.

She did solid last year with multiple top 8s, won Defend The North over both Du and Kbrad, and got 2nd at CC finals and beating several strong players.

Everyone has their ups and downs. Chun is not good right now as well. Weaker anti air, lowered damage, ial isn't worth it, etc. She's low tier or bottom mid at absolute best. The fact that she's keeping up at all in sets shows skill. Id be surprised if she doesn't take a new main soon. Frankly I expect multiple chun mains to either switch mains or at least run secondaries if they are serious about getting CPT points.

#35
Green016 said on March 17, 2017 at 11:04 a.m.

Agree I would definitely include her too. These invites make no sense tbh.

#37

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Chris T ever being dominant in SF5.

omg chun.so sad really.capcom has really no idea what balancing means.they either nerf to the ground like they did to chun or buff like crazy like they did to laura, balrog.(urien was good in s1 o not counting him)
thanks capcom for destroying the female face of sf.

#45
MajinTenshinhan said on March 17, 2017 at 1:02 p.m.

Say what you will, but he wasn't 10th in CPT standings by a fluke. He won 2 ranking events last year, got 2nd at two more and 3rd at two more on top of that. I don't know if "dominant" is the right word, but he was doing really well for himself.

#46
Fitzjitsu said on March 17, 2017 at 1:20 p.m.

They both got their points from the smaller CPT tournaments. Chris T came in about the same, taking first in a few, and placing higher in a few others. They aren't bad players by any means, I think Chris is better than Julio though. Chris T even beat Julio in Grand Finals at Japonawa. However neither player is dominant, just skillfully placed well in other tournaments. With the new point system, I think we will see a very different Top 32 this year!

#47
ikarinokami said on March 17, 2017 at 1:21 p.m.

jwong vs smug was like a time of possession football team dominating for 90% of the game and losing because the other team scored every time it got the ball.

#49

People saying nerf Cammy need to watch that Smug v Justin match where Justin picked Cammy. He completely dominated the neutral but one lucky crush counter for Smug into V trigger = death.

Cammy doesn't need a nerf imo. But Boxer... 25 health and that's it? Are you kidding?

Please punk vs smug grand final

#51
MajinTenshinhan said on March 17, 2017 at 1:36 p.m.

They were pretty damn far apart in points and results in 2016, but if you think Chris T is a better player, that's your perogative. He very well may be. 2016 results told a different story, but that's not all there is.

#52
dlmaniac said on March 17, 2017 at 1:47 p.m.

I don't think Ricki played all that bad it's just that when landing some combos she (ChunLi) just could not deliver nuf damage thanks to S2 over-nerf.

#53
SilverSoul said on March 17, 2017 at 1:50 p.m.

Chris T beat Julio every single time they met in tournament during s1. 6 - 0 at japonawa(winners finals and grand finals), several times in wnf, and none of their matches was even close. It's no opinion, when it comes to Chris vs Julio, Chris is stronger several times. If we talk about how they fare against different players, then it's a different story, their styles are different, they have different success vs different players.

#54
Anders said on March 17, 2017 at 1:58 p.m.

Go1 finished 13th in final round, totally what is expected of a player of his caliber in a stacked tournament like that. He also beat Smug on his way there. So yeah, so far I can't agree on that Chun looks worthless. I think a lot of Chun players last season performed way above their level because they were playing the strongest character in the game. It would be really interesting to see what happens if any of them switches to another character!

#55
Doh_Simpson said on March 17, 2017 at 2:07 p.m.

Ricki was only good last year because of the home advantage at CC finals and the really good character to back it up, now it's smug's turn. The real chun li players will be coming out soon.

#56
cigdem said on March 17, 2017 at 2:22 p.m.

Go1 switched to guile at the last stages of the tourney. He know he couldn't get to 13th using chun. I'm not really fan of Ricky, but the fact is the character is too weak to handle a major tourney.
Also all chun pro-players are more aware the potential of the character than any of you.
As Daigo said, the tier lists are real. What are you still trying to justify?

#57
cigdem said on March 17, 2017 at 2:25 p.m.

Hope they do if they don't switch, which seems like a high probability if they're into the CPT. None of them is happy so far (I'm speaking of MOV, GO1, Nuki.
But of course, you all know better than pro''s.

#58
dlmaniac said on March 17, 2017 at 2:34 p.m.

Ken just could not handle Urien. I saw Eita and Momochi blown up by Nemo in Topanga the same manner.

#59
Otterly said on March 17, 2017 at 2:35 p.m.

At this point for Luffy, there's only one big difference between this and Kakutop : almost nobody is expecting him to win the whole thing.
I'm pretty confident he can do it though. He's been really strong and he won against the three other qualified players of his group.

#60
Clamper said on March 17, 2017 at 2:37 p.m.

The groups are so unbalanced... Group A is pure savagery, group B is meh.

#61
Anders said on March 17, 2017 at 2:51 p.m.

In top 64 Go1 played Verloren, MenarD and Smug with Chun.

Then he switched to Guile in the last match he played, which he lost.

So saying that he "switched to guile at the last stages of the tourney" is just wrong. He played 1 match with guile. One match that he lost. It's gonna be pretty pointless to discuss this if you just make up alternative facts.

Punk! That was so entertaining. Hope I get to see him play Nash also someday, his fav right? Still he can play a lot of characters really good.

#65
dlmaniac said on March 17, 2017 at 3:12 p.m.

Go1 / Nuki / Mov, the 3 elite Chun players, finished Topanga with a total record of 30-57. Chun is low end of a mid like Juri or Vega at best. The jury is back.

#66
cigdem said on March 17, 2017 at 3:55 p.m.

Oh sorry, I didn't watch the tournament, just couple of go1 matches on YouTube to see how he was doing. Didn't watch his guile either, as I have heard his guile was pretty bad.
The match with balrog disgusted me about how this character turned into. He barely won the match and he played way too defensive.
Go1 also the only chun with a little progressed than the other chuns in topanga.
Still the character is not strong enough to make it further.

Most characters play the same way, and there aren't really tough links to master with said character so having a pocket any character is really easy.

i think his placing matches blew up on him, so he trained possible secondaries with his last few. The prize pool isn't amazing. Still got bopped though.
Justin taking it over Punk makes me think everyone but Punk sandbagged at least a little to save something for the tourney.

momochi = ken is weak, it's that simple. a format like this, favors the strongers characters, because your bad matchups are likely to get exposed.

That play from F-Champ was clinical. Kinda feel bad for Punk ;_; ...

Punk ran into two of the best ever and didn't bring his A game. He's not going anywhere though, still went 7-0 through polls, 9-0 at KONY, won WinterBrawl and is STILL only 18.

Punk's FGC career hasn't even started yet.

love mika. so happy the 3 best mika players stuck with her.

she isnt broken, she is probably perfectly balanced even though i would like her neutral to be buffed.

seems like RB has never fighter a Guile that throws tons of sonic booms and if you jump then flashkick.

Urien doesn't exactly have decent tools to deal with that

I like Du and Smug's friendly rivalry. It's pretty entertaining. Lol

Du should just stick with Guile, he's completely broken right now... pretty much all of his losses this year are with Mika

riku157 said on March 18, 2017 at 2:12 p.m.

He chooses characters based on the character he's going up against and the player he's going up against. If he's choosing Mika it's because he doesn't think his Guile would do any better.

blarog has a huge advantage over guile

mika has the advantage over balrog

Balrog is just a silly character. I can't believe that the patch has only reduced his health by 25. As if 25 is going to make a difference to anything. How about nerfing his ridiculous damage.

He'll still be top tier if not the best...

Lol! Strong world here!!! Ok for Momochi being dominant with ken. I wouldn't go that far for Chris Tatarian & Julio.
