Daigo dropping Ryu for Guile in Street Fighter 5 Season 2, according to top players at Final Round

Looks like BST|Daigo is dropping Ryu in Street Fighter 5 Season 2. After placing 33rd at Final Round 20 -- the Capcom Pro Tour's first premier event this year -- it seems as though Daigo has finally had enough.

A couple of top players spoke to Daigo at the tournament yesterday, and he confirmed to them that he will be playing Guile instead.

Ryan "SPY|Filipino Champ" Ramirez and Miky "WFX|XSK Samurai" Chea made note of it on Twitter, reporting that Daigo promised not to pick Ryu anymore and when that he has essentially "gave up."

Daigo's "give up" statement likely refers to a past broadcast of The BeastTV on which he explained that he did not want to simply pick a top tier character in order to win. He wanted to put in the work with the character he enjoys most in order to have fun with the game, so switching to Guile feels like "giving up" and taking the easier road to victory.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the nerfs Ryu underwent were too steep for Daigo's liking. Guile is currently considered one of the best characters in Street Fighter 5, and Daigo has not only been putting in work with the Sonic Boom-wielding warrior, but also has a history of playing the character in other Street Fighter games.

It will be interesting to see how this change affects Daigo's tournament results over the course of this year's Capcom Pro Tour.
