Mortal Kombat X gate keeper SonicFox sent home 3rd at Final Round, Dragon takes tournament with beautiful last second maneuver

With a new NetherRealm Studios game on the horizon and no slated appearance for EVO 2017, Final Round 20 may be one of the last big majors for Mortal Kombat X. As such, many players are vying to get a major victory while they still can.

Unfortunately for everyone else in the MKX community, FOX|SonicFox has been gate keeping tournaments since the game began, winning the majority of big name tournaments for the MKX's entire lifespan. A somewhat poetic finish to today's tournament saw the young champ go home in third place thanks to the work of Noble|Dragon and teammate FOX|Scar.

Dragon would send SonicFox to the losers bracket after a close 3-2 set in winners finals, and Scar would then send the favorite to win home with brutal sequences like these:

As exciting as it was to see Scar take out Sonic, he's still one of the few MKX players to have won a major, and many fans and community members have noted that Dragon has had a win coming for the last two years. Today would finally be his day.

Boasting stellar performances on a consistent basis, Dragon has missed the number one spot by a hair on numerous occasions. His victory over SonicFox in winners finals put him in prime position to take Final Round 20, but he'd have the red hot Scar to deal with in Grand Finals.

Here are the final moments of the tournament as Dragon shuts down the threat of a comeback with a beautifully placed float from Kitana:

A big congrats to Dragon for his big win.

That's because Sonic Fox is already breaking Injustice 2 and has imported the source code into his cerebral cortex. RIP

"A lot of people think that Dragon doesn't really know how to play. Dragon said he knows how to play Mortal Kombat. He just doesn't know how to play X. It was kind of like SonicFox's first day too. You may have noticed during the match that he missed some meaties and other things like that."

"It just shows that anyone could really become a champion in this game if they tried."

I wish NRS would make more of an effort to keep their games going more than two years. I feel like Injustice and Mortal Kombat could co-exist in tournaments. I know a lot of that responsibility relies on the scene, but NRS has a hand in it.

The 2 year drought with Injustice and MK sucks.

The game is still well and alive, capcom scrubs are the ones claiming that the game is dying.

I personally will keep playing this game for many years to go.
