So Season 2 has had a bit of time to stew for a lot of players at this point. There have been many differing opinions about how the Season is looking so far.

I decided to reach out to long time veteran of the Street Fighter series and the man behind the Level Up series (Twitch channel), Alex Valle, for some of his input on the subject.

This is the second and final part of the interview with Alex Valle. This part is focused on Alex Valle's opinion on the direction of Season 2, his input on some community opinions such as the input lag issue, and the possibility of another patch before the start of the Capcom Pro Tour.

Part one of the interview with Alex Valle focused on specific changes for characters and how it made them better or worse.
AdaptiveTrigger: Given it is still very early into Season 2’s lifespan, how would you rate the balance of Season 2 so far? How does it compare to Season 1’s balance?

Alex Valle: Definitely a bit early to know how the balance is right now. I can say Guile, Urien, Balrog, and Laura seem really strong.

For some characters, Season 2 feels better but if you play a character that got nerfed, then you may not like it. There are fans that are still loyal to their characters but are going through the growing pains of balance again which is understandable.

I wish Capcom wouldn't nerf some of the characters [so] badly [and instead] buff the ones that need it. Characters are more desirable if they can utilize as many tools as possible in a match.

When you see a character free-styling on you like Urien can, you can’t help but notice why he has so many great buttons and yours are either negative, slow, or can only be used at specific times.

AdaptiveTrigger: What do you think of the changes made to meterless invincible reversals?

Alex Valle: I’ve played the Street Fighter 3 series so not having an invincible reversal isn’t relatively new to me. You just have to focus on defense a bit more and wait your turn.

I can see this is a frustrating system change with players coming from the Street Fighter 4 era or ones that dismissed Street Fighter 3 though.

AdaptiveTrigger: What are your predictions for the top 10 characters for Season 2?

Alex Valle: Top 10 doesn’t really matter in my opinion. There always seems to be 2-3 characters in the game that has the least amount of unfavorable match ups.

Right now I think Guile is the strongest followed by Urien. Everyone else is a toss up from Balrog to Laura etc since they can fight each other with their shenanigans.

AdaptiveTrigger: What do you think about the fireball game in Street Fighter 5?

Alex Valle: Guile has the only true fireball game in Street Fighter V. He can zone with it.

Other characters fireballs like Ryu, Ken, or Laura have to either counter poke or set up a meaty to gain pressure opportunities. Many special attacks or V Skills in Street Fighter V have an answer for most fireballs except Guiles.

AdaptiveTrigger: Many players have been hoping for another patch before Season 2 of the Capcom Pro Tour officially begins. Any thoughts on this?

Alex Valle: I’m with the community on this one. As I said before, buff the characters to make them more desirable and don’t go ham on nerfing the strong characters.

Characters are fun when you feel your attacks can be utilized in many situations and not confined. So I hope Capcom does one more round of slight balances to make the game fun for everyone and not just the top tiers.

AdaptiveTrigger: Many players have been wanting the input lag to be dropped from 6.2 frames to 4.0 frames. Any thoughts on this?

Alex Valle: I’m not entirely sure how the game will play out if changed to 4 frames. I do know it is really frustrating not being able to whiff punish or anti air something you see from miles away but your input timing doesn’t match up.

I think Capcom should let us try a test build with 4 frames to see how the game plays. I’m a reactionary based player so naturally I’d prefer the least amount of input lag.
