Online players experiencing false disconnects after King of Fighters 14's new 1.10 update, SNK provides statement

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • January 11, 2017 at 8:58 a.m. PST

King of Fighters 14 received its highly anticipated 1.10 update early Tuesday morning. The patch implemented a graphical overhaul of sorts, improving the shading and lighting to give the game a sharper and more detailed look overall.

So far, 1.10 has been well-received by fans, however, some players have run into issues with false disconnects from online matches.

SNK provided a statement on the matter, explaining that those who change the display settings for "Icon", "Title" or "Rank Match Fight Record" on the "My Profile" screen will cause the game to mark the player down for disconnecting prematurely from an online match. The company urges fans to refrain from making any such changes as this will affect win rates and disconnect penalties.

A fix for this issue is currently being investigated. You can read SNK's official statement below.

SNK's official statement

【Important】 About the latest KOF XIV 1.10 patch.

There is an issue where the game will consider the player to have disconnected from an online battle if they change the display settings for "Icon", "Title" or "Rank Match Fight Record" on "MY PROFILE" screen.

We are currently looking into it and hope to have a fix as soon as possible.

Because this will affect win rates and disconnect penalties, please refrain from making any changes on the "MY PROFILE" screen.

We are also investigating into any other issues with this patch and will notify everyone once our investigation is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience and ask for your patience as we prepare another patch to solve these issues.

if this was sfv all hell would've broken loose.

This just goes to show that every game has it's issues.

Ya, I figure this will probably be patched within a week. With a team and budget probably 1/10th of what Capcom was working with. Key Re-binding, broken battle lounges, no p2 rematch option...well, give it ONE more year and they should have things figured out.

I'm sure all hell broke loose on some Mexican forums...

No it hasn't.

Never experienced any random disconnects or problems connecting to other players.

But then again I have expensive gear driving my network connection, not bargain bin garbage.

Like the capcom fanboys here who act like they are a Intern for capcom -_-

Don't you mean if you're an SNK employee you would address this problem instead of ignoring it? :P

Honestly the so called fanboys are just stating facts. That network issue is something that's a problem and it was acknowledge by capcom.

"oh my character is too weak"

"that character is too strong"

"there's no arcade mode"

"its stupid that we have to pay for dlc characters"

ppl hate sfv cuz its the popular thing to do, just like it was on street fighter x tekken

Such is the fate of being top dog in the FGC community. Everyone wants to see you fall.

Or any gaming community. God, the CoD vs Halo wars of the last generation was something to behold. Bunch of immature pricks arguing their game was better for one dumb reason or another.

And don't read Blizzard forums... Blizzard does some balancing, everyone b**ches. Blizzard adds new QoL functions, everyone whines they didn't add more other stuff... Ugh.

I'll just chalk it down to the internet being the internet.

RokoJono said on January 11, 2017 at 10:28 a.m.

hey if were gonna be fair, sfv day 1-2 had massive server disconnects, even in singleplayer content. if we also count the rootkit fiasco i think its safe to say that day 1 issues after release or patches can mess up for ANYONE.

Not too big nowadays. You'll get an occasional player in Player and Ranked but not nearly as frequent as it was back when it started. I'm hoping there'll be a little boost in player count with this update but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

Problems like this can happen with any developer. The reason Capcom is getting crapped on about SFV is because that game has a new problem every week. Ain't no point in defending none of these developers. They can defend themselves.

#28

Hm okay. I would expect a surge this week then it'll probably soften right away. This is the kind of game I get wrecked on online anyway.

I'll probably keep this game reserved for local couch sessions and SF and KI for online play.

AngriestAngryArtist said on January 11, 2017 at 10:59 a.m.

is not defending, more like informing.

Some people here like to jump the gun and just feel the need to bash a company no matter what. To the point where they're borderline full of sh*t.

So someone in this forum who tries to be reasonable and giving them facts, they get labeled as "DEFENDERS" it's f*cking stupid. These idiots literally just want to be right in their own world.

There's nothing to b*tch about with DOA though. Hell, all of Capcoms dlc to try to complete their game? Story mode (which I thought was dog sh*t and boring), music selection, and where's the frame data in training mode?????? Already included in DOA.
The only thing I wish they had was top of the line, 2017 netcode, but SFV doesn't have that either lol.

Oh look who's talking about SFV in a KOF article. And it's the very first comment.

Anyway, for now people should stay out of the "My Profile" menu(or change it before updating/deleting the update). It looks like even by just going in the menu and not changing anything might trigger the bug.

There's also a new costume coming at the end of the month and a fix for Ramon's new infinite(hey, it's not KOF without an infinite):

Tekken = chess, DOA = checkers

Doa dont have even half options Tekken have. Also hitboxes and hit collision just like it indie game.

Less modes less, customization less, everything, not even on EVO now and broken PC version.

Hopefully they get it fixed. Honestly dont have anything bad to say with how they have handled the game after launch. Issues seem to be dealt with quickly and the patch sizes have for the most part been very small which is great and hopefully they continue in that way.

That_guy_who_plays_DOA said on January 11, 2017 at 12:31 p.m.

What are you talking about? I've played both extensively and I'm calling you a liar who talks @ss.
Tekken came out with a new game, of course it's at EVO.
Neither game has a large scene worth bragging about though, that's just the sad truth of 3d fighters.
If anything VF is the GO to DOA's Chess.

My online matches are smooth. The wait time varies but ive never had to wait longer than ~6 minutes for a match. The player base is much smaller compared to sf5 (which truly is why sf5 gets put thru the ringer but thats a different conversation) so chances are you will vs. The same people within a couple of hours.

Feel free to add me on psn! ID: sgtbowser.

Discane said on January 11, 2017 at 5:58 p.m.

Nekken have 4 attack buttons and a lot od direction+button base attacks for each character
DOA have 2 buttons and even lessd button+direction attack per button

Tekken have a lot "special" or significant moves per character
DoA have less and many of that moves are enders for preset combos a.k.a. U need to do combo to do certain moves instead of just make moves.

And DoA have stupid holds wich just adds randomness in gameю U don't want to be holded - gust do attacks at random, enemy will do holds ar random and 1/4 of all attacks of each player will be randomly holded.

npcomplete said on January 11, 2017 at 7:33 p.m.

Yeah, except SNK acknowledged it IMMEDIATELY, even provided a partial workaround explaining what people are doing to trigger the bug, just like how quickly they patched the netcode of the game after people experienced issues.

Compare this to Capcom's rage-quitting detection system where they DENIED anything was wrong. Their rep on reddit even said they only monitor connections from player, when it turns out that disconnects from the match-making/stats server ALSO triggers a false rage quit, as people have suspected since the beginning. It tooks weeks of hammering and several videos of proof to acknowledge it was an issue on their end.

That_guy_who_plays_DOA said on January 12, 2017 at 8:26 a.m.

You can't possibly look me in the eye and tell me that DOA doesn't have an obscenely large move pool. There are literally tons of attacks, unique attacks, unique strings, string alterations, teleports, grabs, etc, so get out of here lmao. There's directional attacks, there's hold direction based attacks, you could go through a match and never use the same move twice.
I'm not insulting you, but the way you talk about the hold system makes it seem like you got dumpstered online and gave up. Tekken is not the massively overstrategized game you're making it out to be, I'm sorry, it's just not.
