Tokido, Momochi, Justin Wong, SonicFox, Scar, and more join team Echo Fox

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • January 4, 2017 at 10:28 a.m. PST

ESports team Echo Fox is shaking things up in the fighting game community. We have just received word that the sponsorship has officially added Justin Wong, Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi, Yusuke Momochi, Yuko “ChocoBlanka” Momochi, Dominique “SonicFox” McLean, Brad “Scar” Vaughn, Leonardo “MKLeo” Lopez Perez, and former Evil Geniuses FGC manager Antonio Javier to their roster.

Echo Fox made the announcement today exclusively through Yahoo eSports.

"From day one, our goal has always been to build the premier eSports organization in the world, setting the new standard for professionalism, team achievement and player development and wellness," the organization's founder Rick Fox said in an official statement. "Today’s announcement demonstrates our willingness to think big, think global and execute a strategic battle plan."

The seven newly enlisted players are among some of the strongest representation for Street Fighter 5, Mortal Kombat XL, and Super Smash Bros. 4 on the scene today.

They will be joining team Echo Fox alongside Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman of Super Smash Bros. Melee fame and top Street Fighter 5 player Julio Fuentes.

I'm pretty sure he still is there wasn't an announcement of him leaving EF. By the way when I read your question I read it was on Ron Burgandys voice.

I guess signing Jwong is a pre-emptive strike for MvCI.

#14
MisguidedAngel said on January 4, 2017 at 11:07 a.m.

Who would have thought the top 2 NRS players right now would be on a team with 2 of the greatest overall FG players of all time. It brings a tear to my eye.

Injustice dominance confirmed

Jwong is the odd-man out here, unless he picks up some games other than SFV... poor guy.

One heck of a roster. The FGC's 2017 is gonna be amazing.

Specially excited for MKLeo, as he'll be able to travel much more now. Oooooh boy, Smash 4 is gonna be lit.

#18

They said that they resigned julio and mewtwo king as well. So not only are they still apart, but sounds like new contracts

#19
ArkticDark said on January 4, 2017 at 11:23 a.m.

Dang what the hell happened to EG!!!??? After PR Balrog left they fell apart...

Makes me wonder why exactly Eduardo left EG and if that has anything to do with them losing Momochi and Justin???

Now K-Brad is all EG has left... funny how like a couple years people thought he would be the player that they got rid of and look now lmao!!!

#21
Mormegil said on January 4, 2017 at 11:29 a.m.

That is a lot of talent under one sponsor. O__O
But that makes me wonder why Justin, Choco, and Momochi all left Evil Genius then, just to switch to another sponsor. Many people thought Justin was going to fly solo, or work with MarkMan. And it seemed like Momochi and Choco wanted to concentrate on Shinobisim.

Is Evil Genius going out of business? Similar to what happened to Madcatz? Maybe Justin, Choco, and Momochi left because it's a sinking ship.

#22
pressstart said on January 4, 2017 at 11:29 a.m.

So much for Team Jwong. I wonder if that means Markman is a manager for Echofox.

Anyway, congrats to them all!

#23
SilverPR said on January 4, 2017 at 11:31 a.m.

What happend you ask people?
Rick "Mothafoking" Fox! That's what happend

I bet when last year in some of the west coast FGC events people said Rick Fox was in attendance I think he was quietly fishing for future talent, well you see the results of that. Good for those guys.

For some reason the EG news from last year that was bought by some other group could be a factor of why this group of people got out of EG when they could and EchoFOX just took their chance with them.

SqueakyBloom said on January 4, 2017 at 11:35 a.m.

Really glad to hear that Sonicfox and Scar got picked up. Sonicfox loves Skullgirls and has shown interest in Marvel Infinite, so Echo Fox may have some of the best Marvel players in the future.

#25

The timing couldn't be any more perfect. Tokido and Momochi for season 2 of SFV, SonicFox and Scar for Injustice 2, and Justin Wong in time for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. They're set this year.

#31
revoltriot said on January 4, 2017 at 11:59 a.m.

Yeah. ChrisG will be a good addition for MVCI, but K-brad will have to level-up his game now.

I like Sonicfox in Skuyllgirls and MK XL, but not that much in SFV. Waiting to see his game in Injustice 2. I bet he'll be great in that game as well.

Great news for the FGC community.

We need more teams, especially in Europe where the only player that has a serious team is Luffy with Redbull. Our top EU players either are Free Agents (Will2Pac, CCL) or doesn't have a "big" team".

#43
TheTHCGamer said on January 4, 2017 at 1 p.m.

K-Brad is a good player but I'm guessing EG didnt sign him based on him just winning events. He's marketable and that's the main reason he's with EG.

His personality is the main reason he's still with EG. Winning is a big part of being a pro player but so is having an enjoyable personality.

So team EG is:

K-Brad
ChrisG

It will be interesting to see the 1st SFV team tournament and watch them go up against, Tokido, Momochi, and JWong!

Dang, I had no clue. I was too young to watch it originally and haven't gotten around to it yet since. I was only aware of the larger role guys like Winters and Simmons. I'd be interested in a documentary about Rick Fox; he's had an interesting life/career.

Are Momochi and Choco always a package deal for sponsorship? I wonder if Momochi has a rule that he will only sign with a team if they also sign Choco. Choco hasn't performed well enough at all recently to justify getting sponsored.

Glad Tokido finally has a sponsor again. He proved to be the most consistent at SFV in season one. And now that the character he is truly passionate about has arrived, I expect to see more great showings from him this year.

I'm surprised at Justin and Momochi both jumping ship and not only joining a new team as opposed to doing something independently, but on the same team to boot. Seems more than coincidental imo.

My thoughts are that Choco got sponsored because of Shinobism. Think about it, getting both of them means that they're also getting trainers (for the new blood that Echo Fox may acquire in the future), and scouts as well.

#80
Frosty4024 said on January 5, 2017 at 9:59 a.m.

It's like people already forgot Daigo, Tokido and Mago was a lineup. That was more of a killer lineup than Tokido, Momochi and Wong.

In fact, thinking about it, Xian was part of that MCZ team at one point too.
