Urien can walk forward before firing off a Headbutt in Street Fighter 5, here's how to perform and apply Dr. Fatbody's 'Micro Walk' tech

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • February 16, 2017 at 3:25 p.m. PST

You may know Dr. Fatbody from the awesome Street Fighter 5 tech he posts over on Twitter and YouTube. Not long ago, he sent a bit of Urien tech our way that adds even more to his already stacked arsenal.

Deemed the "Micro Walk" Headbutt, this particular technique allows Urien to walk forward a bit before launching into his special move. While this isn't a new concept for quarter circle motion moves or even left/right charge attacks, it's something we don't see often for down/up moves.

Below is an example of the tech in action.

As you can see, the Micro Walk can be used to bait the opponent into teching throw, which will open them up when Aegis Reflector is on screen.

I jumped into the lab to do some testing of my own, and found that the most consistent way to perform it is as follows:

Hold down-forward until your charge is ready, then slide the joystick to the forward direction. After a small walk forward, finish out the motion of the headbutt. The timing is tricky, but this is definitely something Urien players can get down with some practice.

You can see another example of the Micro Walk Headbutt below, as well as another application for it.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, Dr. Fatbody.

Good tech. I was thinking Urien needed more in the way of tools and setups.

HIT THE LAB WITH RASHID NEXT PLS!!

More reasons for Capcom to buff Urien, I guess.

Don't forget that this is the day where SFV was released.

We have come a long way and still glad Urien is still doing cool mixups

Some how when the new balance patch comes out I can already tell Urien won't be nerfed too hard, Ryu is gonna get buffed and FANG will remain the same.

Urien will not get nerfed, at most they will scale damage and do something with ex tackle.

as long as his combos are untouched thats all i care about.

LOL really!?! This is the charge input buffer system. The same system that's been in SF since '91. Why are people trying to name something that already exist. And why the hell are people just now finding out about this?

This is the same system that has been nerfed in S2 from 12f charge input buffer down to 6f.

Stop calling that a New technique. Micro walk. Wtf!

This was already used in 3s and even in st.

Yeah exactly!

Just my thoughts!

This isn't exactly a "micro step". He was able to hold forward an entire step. I hate how long SFV stores inputs. It's way too long.

Can this broken ass character get any more broken?

#25
danny2times said on February 16, 2017 at 5:57 p.m.

I was messing around with these types of charge moves and found every charge move is "stored" for a short time.

Like this example shown and for instance you can charge headbut standing neutral any cancelable move into headbut. Walking forward backwards or with practice linking off of non cancelable normals that are short on frames.
Bison can do some weird stuff with this tech. Ex headstomp will otg clean with practice it's really cool.

Same with tackle and knee drop.
Every charge move can do this so where's desk or doopliss showing off this tech? Lol get on it!

Amoni said on February 16, 2017 at 6:04 p.m.

You mean the recovery of headbutt (including ex headbutt) and frame data of s.mp or cr.mk is fine?

character like Necalli cannot do anything after 2 jabs, unless with Ex (ex stomp). Urien can link 3 jabs, and go for max range HP headbutt or tackle.

No character is allow to link 3 crouching light and then combo, ever.

TwoCoins said on February 16, 2017 at 6:22 p.m.

If someone does this to you successfully and regularly, then no amount of nerfs will make you stop bitching about this character. The player

likely far out classes you. Simple as that. This tech is not "simple" buy any means.

Basically it's the mashy, slow reaction players crying for nerfs. Your gonna get exposed either way.

#28
CODYYY said on February 16, 2017 at 6:23 p.m.

had that in season 1, seemed fine then.

cant do anything after cr.MK

characters have better stuff than urien, i dont know why people are not complaining about rashid yet if they think urien is broken

urien has to make his specials safe by distance yet he is apparently braindead. the only people that are braindead are the people that dont wanna learn how to fight him.

This was in since the start though and explored before. Desk uses it in this combo video that you've posted before IIRC:

This was posted back in april 2016

Yes he can. Cr.MK is +4 oH.

#32
StarBuster said on February 17, 2017 at 2:48 a.m.

As broken as S1 Chun-Li? Doubt it

#33
Nag1 said on February 17, 2017 at 2:48 a.m.

cr.MK is +4 on hit and +2 on block if I'm not mistaken, which is pretty much broken considering it's one of his best options to combo into V-trigger for 400+ damage.

His normals are just stupid, far better than those of any other char.

This is the same concept of charging the headbutt, going to standing LP/MP and finishing the headbutt input so you do a standing punch->headbutt combo

#36
maddog666 said on February 17, 2017 at 8:08 a.m.

I think the nerf only apply on back charge
I can not do f.mp into shoulder but I can easily do f.mp into headbutt

It doesn't work on s2
