The Season 3 cast for Street Fighter 5 had their V-Gauge system plans started 'almost precisely a year ago,' according to Ono

Reveals how the Season 3 cast was chosen (although it may be obvious)

The Season 3 cast for Street Fighter 5 was completely revealed at the end of Capcom Cup 2017. It caused a great deal of hype within the community.

Many of these characters are beloved fan favorites. These returning veterans are Sakura, Blanka, Cody, and Sagat.

The two newcomers are G and Falke. So how were these characters chosen? 4Gamer (Japanese website) recently asked this of Yoshinori Ono during an interview.

"By the way, I'd like to ask about the characters you announced for the upcoming Season 3," inquired 4Gamer. "What basis did you use for choosing these 6? It feels like Sagat and Cody are characters people have really been waiting for eagerly, but still."

Yoshinori Ono replied, "well, just like you said, we've heard a lot of people saying 'I want this character in!', and that's how we chose them." The process was apparently that simple.

It's no secret that fans have been wanting these characters -- especially Sakura and Sagat. This obviously doesn't explain G and Falke, but maybe they'll have very unique play styles.

"The commotion in the building when we showed off our Sakura trailer, when Blanka appeared in the middle of the trailer, and the shouts of joy when Sagat showed up towards the end, I think it truly shows how much people wanted them," continued Ono. We definitely saw this reaction when the trailer first played.

Interestingly enough, plans for these particular fighters have apparently been in the works for about a year now. Ono revealed this in his next statement:

"As for how to get these characters to work well within Street Fighter 5's Gauge system, that is something we started to think about almost precisely a year ago, and finally getting that to come to fruition in time for them to join Season 3, that's what led to this announcement."

So what does this tell us? The Season 3 characters appear to be fairly developed already.

The "Gauge system" is probably the V-Gauge. Like everyone else in Street Fighter 5, changes in movesets are necessary in order to accommodate the V-Skills and V-Triggers.

As for the trailer that we saw, it was the intro animation for Street Fighter 5 Arcade Edition. In it, all six of these combatants are shown in several different scenes.

Sagat even has a fight with Ryu. Things appear to be further along than how it was last year when we were only shown silhouettes.

In both Season 1 and Season 2, there were points in time where a character was delayed a month. Who knows if that will happen for this season as well.

It's very possible that Capcom is planning out Season 4's cast now if they are continuing this trend.
