Wait... is Street Fighter 5 Season 3's new character G actually Greg from Bloody Roar?

The similarities are certainly interesting

If you happened to catch the newly revealed Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition intro video last night, then chances are you spotted a mysterious, top hat-wearing character. As of right now, we know that his name is G and believe him to be the rumored "president" fighter we previously heard about -- with his Uncle Sam pose and Abraham Lincoln-esque look being further indicators.

Among the six DLC characters set for release in Season 3, G is the only one we've never seen before last night. Naturally, the community wants to know more.

Well, an interesting theory about who G might be was sent our way this morning. Twitter users Du Nguyen and Xavier pointed out that this new character might actually be Greg from the Bloody Roar series.

Admittedly, I was skeptical at first. However, there is some fairly compelling evidence here.

Firstly, who is Greg? Gregory Jones, a.k.a. Greg the Gorilla, appeared in the first Bloody Roar title on the original PlayStation. He is an American wrestler who also happens to be a circus ringmaster, and he has the ability to transform into, you guessed it, a gorilla during battle.

Greg is tall, muscular, wears a top hat, and has similar facial hair to the mysterious G. But that's just the beginning.

By now you've probably spotted the most obvious hint: the fact that "Greg" starts with "G." It's a little on the nose, but it is certainly worth mentioning.

The strongest hint here, however, is the fact that Greg can transform into a gorilla. You may recall a scene from Ed's story mode in which his squad members were shown. If not, here's the art piece:

That's right. There's a large gorilla character on Ed's team, and as Du Nguyen notes, it has red, green, and blue circles on it. This leads us right to our next clue.

In the new Arcade Edition trailer, what follows G is three spinning circles that contain scenes for Zeku, Abigail, and Cody. The circles shown here are, of course, red, green, and blue.

This could merely be coincidence, but still, it's fascinating.

Obviously, this isn't confirmed in any way. But from what we've seen here, the connection definitely seems plausible.

If G turns out to be Greg, it will be interesting to hear how this came about. Did Capcom purchase the rights to Bloody Roar? Is it just a tribute?

We can't wait to find out more about G and Street Fighter 5 Season 3.
