Big news this evening as Bandai Namco announced Soul Calibur 6 during the 2017 Video Game Awards.

This is our very first glimpse at the new addition to the franchise that started back in 1998, and will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC some time in 2018.

Soul Calibur 5 dropped back in 2012, making it five years since the last franchise installment.

Thus far we only get to see two combatants (Mitsurugi and Sophitia) duke it out, but the game's graphics and visuals are already taking us right to the edges of our seats.

Both characters look like their young selves, and this is definitely reflected in Mitsurugi's official artwork, which you can find below. By first appearances, this seems like a step back in the series' timeline, as Mitsurugi was older in Soul Calibur 5.

The official description from Bandai Namco notes that competitors can "get ready for the triumphant return of 3D weapons-based fighting." Here are a few stills to get you started.
