The end-of-the-year event is almost upon us. Capcom Cup 2017 kicks off this week with three days of exciting Street Fighter 5 action.

Capcom's own Michael Martin shared more details about the event over on the PlayStation Blog this morning. For those unfamiliar, the Capcom Cup will pit 32 of the world's best Street Fighter 5 players against each other in a fierce battle to claim the title of champion.

All year long, competitors from across the globe attended numerous events on the Capcom Pro Tour tournament circuit in hopes of qualifying for a spot at this weekend's finals. 31 spots have been secured so far, and the last spot will be awarded this Friday.

The Capcom Cup will kick off on December 8th and will run through Sunday, December 10th. The first two days of tournament action will take place at the Anaheim Hilton hotel in Anaheim, California, and the event will conclude at the PlayStation Experience at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Day one of the event will feature the first-ever Capcom Cup Last Chance Qualifier -- an open tournament that will grant the winner the final spot on the Capcom Cup line up. The following day will see the 32 players fight it out up to the top 8, and day three will have the eight finalists competing for the championship and over $370,000 in prize money.

Like last year, Capcom offered a set of special DLC that saw a portion of the proceeds contributed to the Capcom Cup prize pot. With over $120,000 raised and the event's $250,000 base prize pool, there's a lot on the line this weekend.

Not only will Sunday be action-packed with the best in the world competing, but according to the blog post we can expect special announcements during the Capcom Cup finals. With Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition set for release on January 16th, 2018, we will likely see more of what the update has to offer.
