Dragon Ball FighterZ producer responds to demand for Nintendo Switch release, no cross-platform play currently planned
Dragon Ball FighterZ is a highly anticipated 2.5D fighting game set for release in early 2018. There's still much to learn about the new title before its official launch, and today two representatives involved in its development are here to oblige.
At EVO 2017, Kayane caught up with Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki and Arc System Works' Junya Motomura for more details on the DBZ brawler. Within this interview Hiroki speaks on accessibility, the potential of adding background music from the anime, and more.
Not long ago, a petition for a Nintendo Switch release of Dragon Ball FighterZ circulated around the internet. The demand for a Switch port proved high, and when asked about the large amount of requests, Hiroki had this to say:
"In regards to the Switch version, we couldn't really say about the situation," Hiroki began. "However, what we do know is we would like our Switch users to focus on our first Switch title: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.
"After the release of Xenoverse 2 on Switch, then we will start to consider whether we should have Dragon Ball FighterZ on Switch."
For those looking to play, Dragon Ball FighterZ will become available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Many modern fighting titles that appear on multiple platforms utilize cross-play -- a feature that allows players to connect and battle with online opponents regardless of the console they're playing on.
We can only hope that Dragon Ball FighterZ will follow suit, but right now, there is nothing planned.
"At this time, we don't have plans for this game to go cross-platform," Hiroki explained. "We should first prioritize on unlocking each of the respective platform's features with the game."
