Classic Thailand stage and School costumes coming to Street Fighter 5 on April 25th

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • April 18, 2017 at 9:17 a.m. PDT

Street Fighter 5's latest batch is coming very soon.

Just moments ago, Capcom Unity posted their latest blog post with the details. The remastered version of the classic Street Fighter 2 Thailand stage and the School costumes for Ryu, Juri, and Chun-Li will become available on April 25th.

The new stage will run for $3.99 / ¥400 / €3.99, or can be picked up for 70,000 Fight Money. We see that the stage features its trademark bell and statues recreated in great detail. Capcom notes that a night-time version of the battleground with candles lighting the way was explored, but they decided to keep it as close to the original as possible.

The three premium costumes will also come with a price tag of $3.99 / ¥400 / €3.99 (each).

For Capcom's descriptions of the three new costumes, be sure to hit the jump.

Premium School costumes

Japanese Bancho Ryu: Ryu’s costume is based on a stereotypical Japanese Bancho (student gang leader) with direct input from a team member who actually used to wear clothes like this when he was younger. The lining on his coat depicts a faceoff between a Dragon and a Tiger.

Honor Roll Chun-Li: Keeping with the atmosphere of her origin, Chun-Li’s costume represents her as an Honor Roll student. She only has the highest standards for herself and always aims to be the top of her class.

Gothic Schoolgirl Juri: As you can see, Juri really pulls off the black lipstick and nails. The team had a lot of fun creating a Gothic schoolgirl look for her. We especially love the spider on the back of her jacket!

great costumes, but why only Ryu, chun & Juri only? No body playing them these days because nerf hammer happened. Capcom should only release Urien, Laura, Ibuki & Boxer out fit.

#12
gonzalo said on April 18, 2017 at 9:29 a.m.

Why do they always waste opportunities like this by only choosing a bunch of characters? Will always be like this? Just a few characters for packs? Anyways they look awesome.

I wonder when Alex and Ibuki's SF3 costumes are coming out? They were announced at the same time as the M Bison's stage

I’m a fan of Gothic look in general. Lucky I play Juri a lot. I like the top right concept best for it is wilder and darker look. Honor Chun is cool. All Chun school versions look great hard to pick the winner. I got bored of Hot Ryu time to use the Bancho Ryu occasionally.

Still waiting to hear the new theme if I want the Thailand stage immediately.

It's true Alex and Ibuki's nostalgia costume were mentioned the same time as the M Bison stage in July 2016. How much time do we need?

#48
Doh_Simpson said on April 18, 2017 at 9:50 a.m.

Ok can a different set of characters get a costume now? Maybe Guile, FANG, Urien etc. Also why can't you buy some costumes with FM? I thought that was the point? Getting what you want by playing the game.

#49
Zephyrus said on April 18, 2017 at 9:50 a.m.

so I guess Bison, Urien, Balrog, Birdie, Rashid, Dhalsim and Guile aren't in the game too then.

#50
AngriestAngryArtist said on April 18, 2017 at 9:51 a.m.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! Ryu is best Ryu.

Some of those variations should be added to new costumes. I think it gives it more personality instead of sticking to the default setup. Because I would love rocking the pompadour hairstyle :D

#51
Chuck_Remixed said on April 18, 2017 at 9:51 a.m.

Love the costumes here. Hate the price of them so I may pass again unfortunately.

#52
ThaiSenpai said on April 18, 2017 at 9:52 a.m.

Chunli dd not transition well from paper. Ryu on the other hand

#53
ParabolaBeam said on April 18, 2017 at 9:53 a.m.

These outfits are much better than some of the earlier themed outfits.

It's a bit odd though that Capcom slammed these characters with the nerf bat to discourage their frequency in tournaments while at the same time designing outfits for them encouraging people to pick them up.

Capcom sometimes feels like an animal with two heads. Not a hydra... More like human centipede :S

That said, Bison's stage is always welcome.

#54
CityHunter said on April 18, 2017 at 9:54 a.m.

Everything looks cooler with a pompadour. I do hope he gets one later on.

#55
VanCityPlayboy said on April 18, 2017 at 9:54 a.m.

First one is Alex's Second Impact stage

#56
Zephyrus said on April 18, 2017 at 9:54 a.m.

and maybe that's why they don't do that anymore.

Have you considered that maybe not all characters sold an acceptable number of costumes?

That maybe the reason we don't get Fang costumes is because only 0.1% of the playerbase uses him?

#57
Apoc said on April 18, 2017 at 9:55 a.m.

Good stuff. Really late, though. Iconic stages and costumes should have been day 1 with purchase. Capcom has it backward. Like akuma. Force the new and charge for the iconic? Make a new game for experiments. I bought sf5 for the sf. Iconic costumes, which are part of the character, still aren't available. Day 1 obvious. Every sf got that right but sf5. Stop trying to be experimental. It's a sequel, not a new series. The more sf in sf5, the better.

#58
Zephyrus said on April 18, 2017 at 9:55 a.m.

Atleast capcom doesn't do the Riot (league of legends) treatment. Release a skin, nerf the character who got the skin.

#59

#64
Zephyrus said on April 18, 2017 at 9:57 a.m.

did you b*tch about that during sf4? Because I don't remember a single sf2 stage in that game.

Something tells me you didn't.

#65
AngriestAngryArtist said on April 18, 2017 at 9:57 a.m.

Because people shouldn't be discourage to pick whoever they want to pick because of tourney players.

You pick a character because you enjoy playing as those characters despite them being low tier.

<--Alex player since S1.

While I do like a lot of things in SF3 stages are definitely not one of them, for the most part they feel really lifeless and desolate, they're all like static paintings (though I'm only really thinking of third strike here)
Edit: Oh except the subway stage, that's was pretty cool.

Personally, the extra costumes for this game have not been that good in my opinion. Except for the bearded Ryu and a couple of toher ones, but overall i think they could do them a lot better.
About stages, that thailand stage is beautiful, we need more world stages and different locations, and hopefully the neext ones are completely new countries , and in season 3 they release some SF3 redone stages, like:
1- Yung &Yangs neon rainy stage
2- Gills illuminati Temple from Third strike.
3- Alex New Generation back alley
4- Ken New Generation Dojo School
5- Makoto Third Strike Home
6- Urien Mayan temple from Third Strike
7.- Hugo Toy room from third Strike

I critique every SF game, honestly. So, of course I did. But see, SF4 knew it was a sequel. All returning characters are in their iconic gear. Even Gouken was made to look like iconic pics that were long known. Most every character got all of their moves...etc.

Don't let SF5 fool you. If a game fall short, especially in gameplay areas, I'll say something because kids can't tell anymore, lol. SF5 is low level beginner SF, if that. It tries to be different but I think that's just an excuse for not knowing how to make a good SF game from the beginning. Like...adding input lag...to be different from other SF games. lol Honeymoon is over. More ppl being honest. It's a really bad SF game for competition. There's a void left for more serious and higher level SF. The FGC wouldn't be here if SF games were made with this current dishonest philosophy of removing the challenging aspects of competition so that beginners could feel good about themselves. It's ok. Another 5 years and we'll be back on track. I'm not going to be silent or pretend they aren't consistently making mistakes that should be obvious before doing them.

I've never been a blind fanboy who's opinions stem from emotion. I won't defend a game just because I like it if what's being said about it is honest. No need. Truth is truth. It's true that the competitive bar was lowered as much as humanly possible for SF5. It's a low level game not nearly on par with prior SF releases. There's nothing to defend. The only defense is for the game to level up. Easy way to do that is to keep your eye on quality SF and quit trying to re-invent a lesser wheel.

Keep the grass in the forefront and everything should be fine.

Do it Capcom, the last really epic outdoor stages like that was Moonlight Wilderness in Tekken and Melty Blood's snow and grass plains.
