EX tea bag dash cancel?! Poongko just brought mid-match taunting to a new level at NCR

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • April 14, 2017 at 3:20 p.m. PDT

Tea bagging in fighting games is getting ridiculous...

At NorCal Regionals 2017 today, Poongko did something we've never seen before during the Ultra Street Fighter 4 action. After stunning his opponent, the Seth player casually walked forward, went for a quick tea bag, then red focus dash cancelled it and closed out the round with a throw.

The red focus cancel cost Poongko two stocks of meter, which wouldn't be a big deal if this closed out the game. But as you can see in the clip below, this was only the first round of the match.

It's nice to see that The Machine still has no fear.

Seth builds meter like crazy, so I guess maybe it was worth it. I always find myself sitting on super if I don't go out of my way to use meter.

SFV teabagging tech combined with SFIV Red Focus mechanics.
The meta sure is evolving.

These SF4 matches were a blast to watch.

I think Poongko's gonna make a major splash in SFV this weekend. He's due.

A lot of my favorite moments/compilations that I go back to watch from SF4 involve this man and this character. Disgusting, in the best way possible

Never thought I'd see another moment emerge again, thanks for the article :)

Imagine all the big names at the event playing in a USFIV tournament there as well. More viewers probably, that game feels more like a king sized bed where you can stretch and roll around and get comfy and SFV feels like a bed that is a size to small, it's newer and still sorta comfy but not as nice as the big bed.

You see how comfortable Poongko is when he is playing USF4?
Remember that one day the guy took his shirt off at Poongko then he turned around and did the same and rubbed his nose with confidence??
That moment, that nose rub, you won't get that in SFV, there just isn't enough openness in the game create unique combos to truly style on people.

I dunno what could fix this, maybe one more juggle property
or some sorta meter burn special cancel

#12
Doopliss said on April 14, 2017 at 4:58 p.m.

What could perhaps fix it is more generous frame data on hit and reach on normals across the board. Juggles are fine in SFV, albeit a little limited in the meterless department for most characters. The meter system really needs some work too, VT is pretty much a less exciting version of the Ultra that is harder to get unless you actively go for it and give up your VRs, especially for 3-bar characters. The fact that you have to choose between using a super and EX moves hurts overall stylishness as well.

Characters who don't have an "install"-type VT or one that otherwise lets them use it as a roman cancel of sorts are left in the dust when it comes to combos as well.

It's all good and everything to talk about SFIV but we have to play it in ordert to keep it alive.

I seriously miss this game....I'm so gonna play this tonight when I get off work.

Shouldn't take too long to shake off the SFV habits and revert back...no?

I saw that, rude as FFF!
but honestly why not.
Poonkos Seth versus any DeeJay is gonna be free.
I mean USF4 is really balanced and all but Deejay is bad.
And Poonko is even Evo champ and a monster.
So yeah, that was almost a sure win for Poonko.

#21
MyKiLL said on April 14, 2017 at 8:37 p.m.

I'm sorry, but the impression I got from this was Poongko trying to cause an FADC after the KO flash and just ended up fudging the inputs.

Yo! You are so right, having to choose between EX moves and CA definitely hurts style a lot, like you said, characters with those one shot VT's don't get to style...
Hmm, it would be tight to use the bar for more than just EX & CA..
Also, the V system definitely needs work, some characters have very weak v-triggers like Nash and Vega, They both should get two times to do their move instead of one. (i.e Nash gets two teleports and Vega gets two roses) That would make for some fun combos.

SFiv had literally the most stale combos of ANY SF....link several jabs into xx-super/ultra

#25
ruzen said on April 14, 2017 at 11:18 p.m.

poongko's comeback was great.
It's much more hype when the comeback mechanics are harder.

#26
Zephyrus said on April 15, 2017 at 12:24 a.m.

sooo sfv is more hype for you?

Because if you sincerely think sfv has easier comeback mechanics than sfiv... lol.

#27
Amoni said on April 15, 2017 at 2:08 a.m.

No you dont link multiple jabs into special into super because that's just a waste of meter.

And most did go for FADC ultra, but the damage is ass.

It is very clear in SF4. Either use heavy buttons for big damage, or use Jabs for confirm and got lower damage

#28
Eye_of_Orochi said on April 15, 2017 at 2:10 a.m.

Are you serious right now? No other SF compares when it comes to combos...no really, you're serious? Damn.

Yeah bnb's were jab jab medium special but to say that is just an outright lie if you watch any combo videos, hell even just high level matches in general.

ZentraediAce92 said on April 15, 2017 at 2:19 a.m.

That was not a teabag into RFADC.

If you do QCF x2 + MP/MK, you will dash forward, same for QCB x2 + MP/MK and same if you use RF. That was a command dash.

EraserRain said on April 15, 2017 at 4:13 a.m.

It looks more like it was an input error for a throw than a teabag.

CatalystCB said on April 15, 2017 at 4:26 a.m.

I mean I enjoy them both but they both have comeback mechanics. That's just something capcom has been into hard in the past few games they made it's not a threat or a sf4 and sf5 debate. Before it even dropped they was talking about it but the revenge meter is the same thing it's like you getting bopped you get a Super so it's what in what really.

If you like sfiv over sfv, that's ok. Different game. Much like SF3 is different from sfiv and sf2 is different from sf3. Different games.

But saying that SFV has easier comeback mechanics than IV deserves to be mocked for what it is. Delusion/stupidity, because that isn't true in any universe.

#36
Zephyrus said on April 15, 2017 at 7:27 a.m.

you mean sfiv?

The game where I reached 11k BP with Guy by doing jump d+mp and mp, hp into lp hozanto over and over again? Or alternate between run mk or hk for a 50/50? LOL

For real, I reached 11k BP in super by doing that. I never bothered to practice the timing for links. I just did that over and over again and I won.

btw 5k viewers for sfiv. IT'S NOT DEAD. LEAVE SFIV ALONE. IT'S NOT DEAD . LUL
