'I don't like that everyone is teabagging now...' - NuckleDu on his favorite and least favorite aspects of the current FGC

Posted by John 'Velociraptor' Guerrero • April 12, 2017 at 7:51 p.m. PDT

The FGC can't seem to get enough of the reigning Capcom Cup champion, Du "Liquid|NuckleDu" Dang.

In a recent interview with Yahoo eSports, Du shared his thoughts on a few different topics, including who he feels the best players are in the Street Fighter 5 scene right now. Interestingly enough, he doesn't include himself on that list.

Du also discusses three things he loves and hates about the current fighting game landscape. The interview itself isn't too long, but it's chock full of interesting conversation from the champ. Check it out below.

Everyone was already doing it in the NRS community long before Du was a thing ;).

We were born without a taunt button so we had to adapt...

hahah this guy. everyone teabags and taunting way before he even became well known

#2
Gellus said on April 12, 2017 at 7:54 p.m.

What about doing a real taunt, that takes commitment and is fun to watch instead of just pressing down a bunch of times, being completely safe in case your opponent attacks you?

Teabagging is so lame, the whole point of taunting is disrespecting your opponent by putting yourself in risk, some games take this even further like GG, where taunting makes your opponent gain meter

No commitment = no disrespect, you just look like someone that wants to taunt but is afraid of eating a punish, someone that is afraid doesn't disrespect me

Gellus said on April 12, 2017 at 8:01 p.m.

It definitely has increased after him, especially teabagging, in SF at least

Bring back Guile's shades

You give Du a better taunt

Less people will hop on the teabag train

win/win

Gellus said on April 12, 2017 at 8:11 p.m.

Bring back Karin laugh as a taunt too

#9
Cmon_Get_Serious said on April 12, 2017 at 8:19 p.m.

Tbh, just bring back taunts that don't take forever to finish. I get the whole "savage and risk-taking" part of it, but the fact is people do teabags because they're quick, low-risk, and easy to do

Give us something quick and unique to the character. The way taunts are now used to be one of the many jokes about Dan.

i was seeing the amazing taunts from skullgirl, the one with the band man is incredible, i never played that game but that taunt is godlike.

I guess Du never played Halo. If he hates getting tea bagged by one person, imagine multiple Masterchief's disrespecting your body.

I kinda feel teabagging lost its charm once everyone is doing it. More like "it's all fun and laughs" rather than disrespect.

Teabagging just looks dumb.

Why would humble Japanese man, Ryu walk up to his downed opponent to continuously croutch disrespectfully?

#25
TheLastAOG said on April 12, 2017 at 10:39 p.m.

T-bagging originally came from the first person shooter world. Simply because after you get a kill your victim has to watch you while they respawn. They have no choice. I get the idea in fighting games, but I don't think it ever had the same appeal.

#26
SpadeHand said on April 12, 2017 at 10:42 p.m.

Maybe you shouldn't have started the trend ya dummy

#27
GamerBear said on April 12, 2017 at 10:57 p.m.

When you're not actually confident enough to use a real taunt and risk anything. Machine-gun squatting is so weak.

Teabagging is funny.

#33
jimbob1141 said on April 13, 2017 at 1:11 a.m.

I mean you're right, but I think this is down to fighting games actually having taunts. If you're playing Halo or whatever, you don't have an actual taunt so you have to teabag.

#34
delamarche said on April 13, 2017 at 1:24 a.m.

Du unto others as you would have done to yourself.

#35
SSfox said on April 13, 2017 at 1:31 a.m.

Adapting & having high reads are definitely the most important imo at the highest level play, even more than Skill level. And that's what make SFV interesting compare to SF4.

BTW Du seems to be like a D*ck sometimes when he teabag his opponents, but i don't think he's a bad person in reality tho.

#36
insanekyo said on April 13, 2017 at 1:45 a.m.

He doesn't like the teabagging now that people are teabagging Du.

mercureXI said on April 13, 2017 at 3:55 a.m.

Can someone explain that 12-year-old that teabagging never was his thing :)

#39
chemicalBirdkick said on April 13, 2017 at 4:06 a.m.

halo 3 was funny a hell when you got tea bagged they would start moaning on the mic . but i think sfv needs to add more taunts in loved taunting in sf4 when i fight turtles they want a cheap shot so they try to come in close and eat a roundhouse lol

#40
mkwarl said on April 13, 2017 at 4:08 a.m.

Nobody uses taunts in sfv because it takes way too long to perform them. We need faster taunts, like Guile's eyeglasses or Gief's laughter in SF4

#43
BunnyBoy said on April 13, 2017 at 6:45 a.m.

Boy, NuckleDu would've hated playing Marvel 2 online, lol. Nearly everyone teabagged in that game after winning a match, and they did it while standing over your KO'd character's face to make it legitimate teabagging too.

#44
Zenfluence said on April 13, 2017 at 7:33 a.m.

LOL this kid smh...people have been teabaggin before Du even had the dexterity to play a frikkin game...hell prob before he was born

Being the first pro level SF player to consistently make it a point to taunt/tease people in game doesnt make you a special snowflake.

#45
Kicks4days said on April 13, 2017 at 8:01 a.m.

I'd say that teabagging can be more frustrating for an opponenet to deal with mentally. Since the taunter is safe it's quite frustrating because their is nothing you can do. A taunt can give your opponent some sliver of hope because it isn't safe. While the traditional taunt shows more confidence, I'd say if your goal is to tilt your opponent and make them steaming mad, them teabags are the way to go. Though everybody reacts differently so I can't speak for everyone.

#46
ThaiSenpai said on April 13, 2017 at 8:28 a.m.

I get what he means. It's not that it was his thing, but we did identify him as a teabag kinda guy we always knew when he did it he was feeling himself it was confidence . Now everyone's doing it and esports calla every down input a "pop off"

#49
Xar5000 said on April 13, 2017 at 9 a.m.

This is so true. I hate the long talk taunts. Plus the game needs more variety if taunts.

Some salt with those tea bags.

#51
AidanJames said on April 13, 2017 at 9:45 a.m.

I still don't even know why people call it tea bagging.

It's furiously crouching with strong eye contact. Which is even better if people would come up with a better thing to call it.

Only Dhalsim can do a true tea bag in the game.

#52
Cmon_Get_Serious said on April 13, 2017 at 9:47 a.m.

This actually.

He's not saying he started it guys, but he definitely is making it more popular with SF players

#53
qa0s said on April 13, 2017 at 9:49 a.m.

What a baby. Teabagging is a pussy move. If you need to taunt your opponent to get an edge on them, you're not as good as you think you are to begin with.

#54
Chris_P_Lanqs said on April 13, 2017 at 9:54 a.m.

If u get that mad or frustrated at a taunt or teabag that it effects ur play you're not as good as you think you are to begin with. It goes both ways.

Capcom's initial philosophy was balance upward with buffs, instead of nerfing stronger characters. Its jacked up how it affected Infiltration's career. But glad to see Xian found his footing.

Nobody was either taunting or teabragging before Du started doing it. And yes, you should be intelligent enough to know he's talking about the Street Fighter scene. Also, he did not say he was the first to do it.

#59

No in Street Fighter, no.
