Street Fighter 5 and King of Fighters 14 both headed to arcades - KoF14 getting full arcade version, SF5 will be PC version

Posted by Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor • October 16, 2016 at 5:38 a.m. PDT

An announcement was made at Toushinsai today, after the tournament festivities was over.

Toushinsai is an arcade-only event, and as such had tournaments in Ultra Street Fighter 4 and King of Fighters 13, which naturally felt a bit out of place since both series have just had new games released this year. Thankfully, both series' developers were at hand to announce that come next year, they can play the newest version, since both of the games are coming to arcades.

King of Fighters 14 will be on the NESICAxLIVE 2 system, while Street Fighter 5 won't quite be getting an arcade version in the traditional sense, but instead will have PC stations placed in arcades that allow arcade players to battle eachother through the PC version of Street Fighter 5.

Considering the impact the arcade community has on Japan's players, this is definitely good news all around for both the King of Fighters and Street Fighter communities.

Half that rumor was true... Would have preferred the Baiken thing to be real. But hell, i wouldnt be shocked if they didnt reveal her based on the fact someone spoiled it.

As for the SFV in arcades thing, its ok for Japan but thats about it. Doesnt effect me. People really overrate arcades and their "impact" in the professional scene. I doubt people like Daigo, Momochi and others are in the arcade training mode 10 hours a day.

#29
DriveCancelled said on October 16, 2016 at 7:17 a.m.

FINALLY. I can enjoy this game offline easily by just heading into local game centres. No more relying on the wildly inconsistent online. Hell yes.

Maybe this will get a lot of the USFIV players to play V more. Most the people in my local at Kitakyushu still played IV just as much as they did before SFV came out.

S2 chars + changes may make SF great again.

my optional still Capcom don't to invest a lot of money to make community bigger, idk if that about budget or sony agreement. still capcom is bigger than snk but snk doing better.

godfist314 said on October 16, 2016 at 7:33 a.m.

Doesn't the PC version have frame rate issues? Just rememering a tweet from PRBalrog that the game will drop to 30 fps randomly. Hope stuff like that gets fixed.

Good to see using the PC version tho. Those ps4 loading times are so bad and PC is much faster.

#36
SnakeX said on October 16, 2016 at 7:35 a.m.

Using PCs or consoles inside arcade cabinets is actually becoming a growing trend. I know Europe's been at it for a while and there's a handful of arcades here in the US that do it as well. Hell, the food/arcade chain Dave & Buster's runs a chunk of their machines on PS3s and 4s.

I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the future of arcades, since theoretically it's an easier and more flexible set up than swapping out whole cabinets. Japan would probably be the slowest to adopt this because of their relatively strong arcade culture still but if Capcom is willing to go this route then I can see others doing the same.

#51
MrBrown said on October 16, 2016 at 8:23 a.m.

Does this mean we could play people in Japan at these arcades online? Also, we need better netcode for SFV. It works pretty good most of the time, but once roll back starts it's the worst.

#52
DriveCancelled said on October 16, 2016 at 8:24 a.m.

Tekken 7 has online play and training mode in the arcades, it's a pretty robust cabinet.

But SFV online is laggy/inconsistent too often (even in Japan for me) so I would never choose to play online in an arcade.

#54
masquedmonk said on October 16, 2016 at 8:31 a.m.

Of course but there is no way these PC stations in Japanese arcades are going to allow cross platform play. You can guarantee that there will be no PS4 or PC access from worldwide, and I even doubt from within Japan itself. Otherwise there is no point to these stations.

#55
ShadowXSasuke said on October 16, 2016 at 8:38 a.m.

#62
4kgk2 said on October 16, 2016 at 8:50 a.m.

Yeah they probably make some special software for the pc version to modify it to make it work like a normal arcade game or something like that I guess😐.

#63
TheTHCGamer said on October 16, 2016 at 8:58 a.m.

I guess someone's trying hard to justify the console they paid for or parents paid for is better. I don't need to do that since I own both consoles😎

News flash even japanese developers are now more then ever catering to the western audience. Not only that but those dude bro FPS games are the best selling games on PS4😂

I do enjoy my PS4 because of the console exclusives but then there's players who bought it because they need there weeabo games because that's what they are😂

Seriously though just enjoy both consoles and PC for what they have to offer. No need to try to be a console fanboy who always in the end are just trying to justify the purchase of there console.

Sony wants PS4 to be the home of the ultimate dude bro FPS game which is COD. Yup that's right and let's not forget Sony has exclusive Destiny content. Hell PS4 is the dude bro console you should own if those are the games your into🤗

Correction: online play within a network that includes other remote arcades including Korea (actually I cant remember if there's cross play between JP and KR) So, true - but they won't add to it later so that a Joe Schmo playing at home can get in on the action. I would be very surprised.

#68
WhiteBeard said on October 16, 2016 at 9:09 a.m.

Sure you do. Xbox isn't my main system to be honest but I do ACTUALLY own one. What games do you play on your Xbox one then because time be honest most multiplatform games perform better on PS4.

So tell me what games do you buy besides fighting games and don't tell me you bought your Xbox one because it has the best weaboo games. Let me guess your favorite genre is dating sims😂

#74
TheTHCGamer said on October 16, 2016 at 9:22 a.m.

Not so much as past SF games which is my point. More and more japanese made games are catering to a western audience. Actually wait how is SFV weeabo?

#75
TheTHCGamer said on October 16, 2016 at 9:23 a.m.

Pretty sure he's being sarcastic. That being said an arcade version does give a noticeable advantage to Japan. A lot of Japanese players prefer to play in arcades which means more japanese players who will be interested in SFV which is a good thing for CAPCOM.

#76
Kavey said on October 16, 2016 at 9:35 a.m.

It really isn't, at least aesthetically (never played it and doesn't seem to have anyting in its play that's particularly Japanesey).

If say Blizzard or IronGalaxy developed SFV and just renamed it and slightly altered the looks of the iconic characters and renamed them, I would just think it was their legit IP.

With the exception of Bengus' crappy art of course.

I know right SFV of all the 2D fighting games seems more westernized then say the anime 2D fighting games on the market and yes I very much enjoy anime fighting games.

Still I'm not going to sit here bashing people who own a Xbox one. By whatever console you want and enjoy the whatever games you like even if others insult you for liking those games.

Hell I hate the COD franchise but I'm not going to sit here insulting people who like those games anymore. Guess I've grown up when it comes to gaming and found its pointless to insult people who just like different things.

#81

Hey to each his own but just remember whatever name you call a gamer for the games he's interested in there's probably a category of gamers you are too. How about this were all just gamers and it's okay too enjoy any genre we want.

TheTHCGamer said on October 16, 2016 at 9:59 a.m.

Yea but your missing out on a decent sized audience by not having an arcade version in japan. Also SFV along with KOFXIV needs to reach as many players as possible since both games are a part of that niche genre.

Once more players end up actually playing it in arcades for a bit maybe it'll be an incentive for them to buy through console version. It's all about trying something and enjoying it enough to buy it.

I really wish CAPCOM released an arcade version of SFV first but better late then never.

#85
TheTHCGamer said on October 16, 2016 at 10:04 a.m.

To be honest it's because they thought he was throwing an insult at SFV. I'm not saying there right or wrong for down voting the comment I'm just telling you why.

Some people on here are afraid to say anything remotely negative about SFV but honestly we should all be able to voice our own opinions especially if give valid reasons why we feel the way we do.

Some people on here though feel the need to feverishly defend any little negative comment about SFV and then you have the ones who just say things to bash the game that just aren't true. Welcome to eventhubs.

Fanboy and troll central😘

#86
masquedmonk said on October 16, 2016 at 10:09 a.m.

Except you're not thinking about it. At all.

The point is to have a public method to play SFV offline, not online. There are no cabinets for SFV, obviously they don't want to foot the bill to make them so this is the solution.

#87
bornonamonday said on October 16, 2016 at 10:15 a.m.

Not everyone will want to drop full price on a game they may or may not like. So dropping some change for a demo isn't that silly.

And not everyone in the arcade community has a console or are waiting on the game/people to play with, so more people playing is always a good thing.

If those are the games your into that's fine and it's pointless for me to label you a type of gamer for enjoying those games because it just makes me look like a jerk.

Which is why I made my weaboo comment because it's pretty much the opposite of being a so called dude bro gamer. It's like your one or the other based on the games you play am I right?

How about were just gamers and we just like playing the games we like. Lots of gamers play games like COD and SFV crazy right.

On the aesthetics, SFV's character style is still very much more "anime" than any western game. *Especially* the females. You can immediately tell it's an Asian game, or at least I can.

Likewise with FF XV. In spite of the similar aesthetic transition FF went through as SFV, the cheekbones, the eyes, the face, the boobs, etc, give it away. Definitely not mainstream or idealized western aesthetics.
