Shaunw takes Juri to the top 16 winners side of a Capcom Pro Tour event; two F.A.N.Gs and even M. Bison in the current Abuget Cup 2016 standings

There is so much tournament action to take in this weekend, and something special is going down at Abuget Cup 2016 -- one of the three Capcom Pro Tour events currently taking place.

As of right now, the top 16 Street Fighter 5 match ups have been decided and will be played tomorrow. Among the competitors, we see a handful of characters that generally don't see appearances this far into a tournament.

Outside of RZR|Xian, F.A.N.G is a character we don't usually see in top 8 or 16 very often in CPT events. However, FV|KoFMaster currently sits on the winners side of the bracket, and FV|Endy on losers, both of which are F.A.N.G mains.

Another character that goes underrepresented in tournament finals is M. Bison, yet CG|Arreyvan has battled to the losers end of top 16 at Abuget Cup 2016. However, the most impressive feat so far comes at the hands of FV|Shaunw and his Juri.

Despite many players feeling as though Juri is near the bottom of the Street Fighter 5 tier list, Shaunw has secured a spot in top 16 winners playing solely as the S.I.N. member.

In his match up against MMS|Sonny, Shaunw showed his ability to adapt and utilize all of Juri's tools to take out the Vega player. Watch as the stored V-Skill comes in handy at the end.

Shaunw continued to showcase his strong Juri throughout the tournament, and in his set against VS|Ultrabram -- who is regarded as one of the strongest players in Indonesia, according to the commentators -- we got a closer look at some effective pressure and set ups using her V-Trigger.

This is one of the first times we've seen Juri in the top standings at a Capcom Pro Tour event, and it's great to see more characters being represented in tournament.

Shaunw's next opponent is HM|Eita, so be sure to stay tuned here at EventHubs for more Abuget Cup 2016 coverage.

I do say she is low tier imo but being low teir in SFV doesn't mean that character is worst.

YES! Those are some awesome comeback potential.

This makes me want to play Juri again...Maybe in casual match.

Glad to hear it.

It's players like these who end up pushing these "low tier" characters the furthest.

not before the slew of people insisting she is bottom tier.

Nice but when a character making top SIXTEEN (not even 8!) in a non-premier event becomes news you know shes bottom tier.

Get it, Juri!

Top 16 in an Indonesian tournament

Juri confirmed top 3 guys!

btw what the hell were those highlights meant to show exactly? that some Ken player can't block?

Juri sucks

She's still the worst character in the game at the moment, but it is good to see Juri being played in tournament at all. Shaun seems to have a decent Juri but these clips show the opponents having a lack of matchup knowledge.
I'm not going to give up on her since shes such a fun interesting characrer and seeing high level players doing the same is nice, but there is no denying that her frame data is all sorts of jacked up, like capcom was like: let's make her a strong pressure character with weak footsies, then they decided to make her a footsies based character and nerfed all of her pressure making everything minus on block without buffing her normals to make up for it.

It's news because the tourney is still going on.

It's so people can be aware and watch it when it streams later on.

This Juri might get top 8 or higher...maybe not. Tune in to find out.

Juri mains can't believe she got top 16 in a tourney. Put in the work guys. The character has great stuff. Her grab range is broken though, screw that.

#17
xxMarshy said on October 1, 2016 at 8:14 p.m.

The grab range is the least of her problems. I put tons of lab time in with her but only end up finding worse things about her.

Never heard of Shaunw, but I will definitely check out his matches!

Juri is not the worst, she's better than Fang, zangief, birdie,Ibuki and Bison, although that is not saying much. And btw her grab is broken in the way that it is gdlk, have you checked it?reaches further than most of the cast.

xxMarshy said on October 1, 2016 at 8:46 p.m.

All of those characters have much better results than her and actually have options while she has nothing but a decent vtrigger. Who cares if she has long grab range it's obviously not helping her enough to make her viable

Well.. Aleast we getting there kinda <3

Gaminex said on October 1, 2016 at 11:06 p.m.

I feel that's a bit exaggerated. When she's got all her moves stocked, she's got some options. IMO Ibuki's absolutely the worst character with her absolute lack of options without meter. We're talking average footsies, less damage, less health, practically the most garbage V-Skill in the game, and entirely dependant on hit confirms into V-Trigger to get rolling. IMO they could get Juri a few buffs and make her work. Ibuki needs a whole dang rework regarding her gimmicks and contrary gameplay where she's supposed to be this rushdown crossup fiend but has weak hit confirms and unsafe specials.

Juri is more badass then people give here credit for in SF5.

#24
synce said on October 2, 2016 at 1:56 a.m.

I feel the opposite. They're both weak in many areas, but at least Ibuki has gimmicks, even without the bomb. Juri has nothing going for her.

Yes, with all 3 stocks you can get some decent damage, but it's not that impressive compared to some characters who don't even need stock AND excel in other areas (like having meterless reversals, 2 bar VT, more life, etc). And good luck keeping fully stocked against someone who knows how to pressure.

Just look at what happened to Infil's hype about Juri. He went with Balrog instead at Brooklyn Beatdown. Capcom really screwed up with this character.

Abbadon36 said on October 2, 2016 at 7:06 a.m.

Yeah, trying to show a character isnt weak by showing a fight like that.
Not convincing, but we need to see these characters played to have an idea.
I feel that must of the DLCs are just ignored or are online warriors only.
If nothing else the exposure will lead to solid information on what to do when the first patch comes out.

I have tested all characters optimal combos just for fun,and because I like to compare the damage. And those "some characters" that do more damage than her,are only Ryu,Necalli and Cammy,(yes,Juri does a little more damage damage than Ken and Karin).I compared the damage from a jump in and CC combo.Hell if we count shimmy combos into the equation, she does more than Ryu,Cammy and Necalli's shimmy bnbs(Ken in this particular case, beats her by only 10 damage oddly enough). So she's definitely high damage providing you have medium charge.

Its_Johnny_baby said on October 2, 2016 at 10:32 a.m.

O yeah!,Juri is definitely top tier when it comes to badassery and looks. Is just the game play performance people are not happy about.

theDiReW0lf said on October 3, 2016 at 4:13 a.m.

Been practicing the hell out of Juri for weeks. I played Ken since release and I feel it's made it impossible to play anyone else. He can combo for 300 dmg off almost every scenario, has a million hit confirms, fireball AND dive kick, invincible reversal w/o ex, 3 frame tatsu, any crush counter and you can absolutely murder someone.

Please tell me how Juri and Ken are even in the same universe of tier lists? I'm going to stick with her because I feel Ken has made me brain-dead but I just can't believe how many more weapons he has than her.

#31
theDiReW0lf said on October 3, 2016 at 4:24 a.m.

The difference is Ken can has a 100x more opportunities to get crazy dmg combos. With Juri even if I score a CC I have to be in right range or spend an ex to reach them. Ken's vskill makes it impossible to MISS any CC full punishes. She can def put out serious dmg but it seems like all the stars have to align for it to happen where as Ken can just wake up dp, v trigger to make it safe, and combo into another one and super if it hits. Lol I wish I never played him, ruined most of the roster for me.
