Mortal Kombat X's Kombat Pack 2 essentially gives you seven characters for the price of four, here's what we think of the new content

Mortal Kombat XL was released just last week, and with it came the option for players to purchase Kombat Pack 2 -- a new batch of DLC featuring additional characters and costumes.

This new set of content can be acquired for $19.99 -- for those who already own MKX (like me) -- or can be obtained by purchasing the full Mortal Kombat XL package.

So, how do the newest fighters fit in with the rest of the roster? And is Kombat Pack 2 worth the money?

The characters

Kombat Pack 2 gives player access to four new kombatants: Leatherface, Alien, Bo Rai Cho, and Tri-Borg. While two of these characters might seem familiar to those who've played Mortal Kombat games of the past, Leatherface and Alien serve as the game's latest guests coming from the films Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Alien, respectively.

Right out of the gate, these characters are fun to play. Each brings a unique feel to the already illustrious roster, and players are given a wide array of different fighting styles to choose from. From the slower, harder-hitting chainsaw swings of Leatherface to Alien's tricky 50/50 mix ups, you'll sure find a variation that suits you among the bunch.

The attention to detail on these fighters is amazing. Leatherface reflects his movie counterpart perfectly. The way he moves and sounds is genuinely creepy. Bo Rai Cho's wacky bouncing attacks and sound as ridiculous and awesome as they look.

But the character that stood out most to me is Tri-Borg. This character actually has four variations, and each one feels vastly different than the other. Channling Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, and even Cyber Sub-Zero makes it feel like there are four different characters all rolled into one.

Some may be disappointed in knowing that other popular Mortal Kombat fighters such as Rain and Baraka didn't make the cut -- especially considering character models with unique movesets are in the game's story mode. Admittedly, I would have liked to see Sindel as a DLC fighter, but I can't deny that seeing Alien face of against Predator and Jason vs. Leatherface is pretty damn cool.

Apocalypse now

Kombat Pack 2 comes with an all new set of alternate skins. Characters in the Apocalypse pack include D'vorah, Erron Black, and Takeda.

Though these aren't my favorite costumes for these characters, they do add an interesting spin on their appearance. Especially Erron Black, who looks like he walked straight out of Fallout.

It's a kold, kold war

Two of Mortal Kombat X's previously available skin packs come included in KP2: the Soccer pack and the Kold War skins.

These costumes aren't any different from when they were first released last year, but for those who didn't get the chance to pick them up before (again, like me), they work as an added treat.

It should be noted that Kombat Pack 2 also throws in Kold War Scorpion, so you're getting a little extra here.

Closing thoughts: Mortal Kombat XL's Kombat Pack 2 gives players a lot of bang for their buck. With 10 alternate skins for classic MKX characters and four new fighters to choose from, there's something for here for players of all skill levels to enjoy.

Kombat Pack 2 shines most with its characters. The new additions are a fun and welcome addition to the roster.
