'The community should fight for Street Fighter 4' - Justin Wong talks EVO with ESPN

As of Tuesday night we learned the official game list for EVO 2016, and many have expressed their distaste at the fact that Ultra Street Fighter 4 wasn't on it.

Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar, EVO's main organizer, has shared with us his reasoning for nixing USF4, and it does make a lot of sense from a tournament organizer's standpoint.

Still, a good dose of salt continues to emanate from a good part of the 09er community. ESPN caught up with a trio of big names from the FGC to discuss the EVO line up. Among them was EG|Justin Wong, who spoke directly about the Street Fighter 4 EVO situation.

"The community should fight for SF4 because SF4 helped us a long way," he said.

The Evil Genius didn't stop there, and you can see what else he had to say after the jump.
Ultra players have gone through a drastic change almost overnight. Their game has gone from being the number one draw for most tournaments to suddenly being completely absent from EVO.

They now find themselves in the same predicament as those who bring their favorite games to play out in side rooms and outer halls at major events, and are likely going to feel some shock from this very quick transition.

Evidenced by as much as the simple fact that ESPN is now reporting on our tournaments, the FGC is surely moving towards a higher echelon of organization and regulation, (I think we call that eSports) but Wong doesn't believe that has to stop us from playing what we want.

"Even if EVO does not accept, grassroots will always run SF4 tourneys. I enjoy SF4 so I would still play. 3rd Strike got kicked at EVO and then the community stood up and brought it back with how hype the game can be. Ultra can go that route, and I'm sure Japan will still play Ultra a lot."

How do you feel about Justin's approach to Ultra not being around at EVO? Do you agree with Cuellar's decision not to have the game on the line up? Let us know in the comments.

ESPN also spoke with Gootecks and ultradavid in their EVO 2016 article.
