It is sometimes difficult to truly appreciate something, until you find yourself to be without it. Satoru Iwata may just be one of those cases.

Today is December 6, 2016. If Satoru Iwata were still here, he'd be 57 today. Today is Satoru Iwata's birthday.

As Nintendo's former president, Satoru Iwata did a lot to further Nintendo's products. He was one of the two most important people involved with the existence and current status of the Super Smash Brothers series.
Satoru Iwata is well known for his quote that he gave during the 2005 Game's Developer Conference.

"On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my head, I am a gamer."

This quote alone tells a lot about Satoru Iwata. A man that was clearly very passionate about his work.

Even at a young age, Satoru Iwata took a great deal of pleasure from seeing the joy of people playing the games that he created. The first set of games he created was actually on a high tech calculator.

After becoming president, Satoru Iwata would often assist with the programming of many games. One such game was the original Super Smash Bros. 64.

Iwata also assisted with the bug fixes for Super Smash Bros. Melee. It was thanks to his assistance that the game was able to be released without delay.

While Masahiro Sakurai would eventually leave HAL, it was Satoru Iwata that recruited him for the purposes of director Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Without this decision, the series probably would've just stopped at Melee.

Despite being the company president, Satoru Iwata was often involved with many of the skits for the Nintendo Direct series. This was a series dedicated towards announcing new Nintendo products.

Sometimes, a puppet would be used to, humorously, represent Satoru Iwata.

Regardless, Satoru Iwata was an individual that brought a lot of change to the industry. Without him, many games such as the Super Smash Bros. series would probably not exist while different forms of gaming like motion controls probably wouldn't be around either.

Despite all the accomplishments Satoru Iwata made during his lifetime, he was apparently always humble about it.

I'm sure there are many gamers out there that miss Satoru Iwata. He certainly was an influential figure within the gaming industry.

So even though Satoru Iwata is no longer with us, I wanted to wish him a Happy Birthday anyways.

A lot of the information I got for this tribute came from DidYouKnowGaming's YouTube video regarding Mr. Iwata himself.
