We will never nerf a character simply because a pro player does well with them says ArcSys Works battle director

4Gamer recently put up a really long, but super interesting piece talking with some of the developers behind Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Persona 4: Arena, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late and Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax.

One of the more interesting moments came from Arc System Works' battle director supervisor, Kazuto "Pachi" Sekine.

Sekine was asked about a remark MCZ|Daigo Umehara made that in essence said if a skilled player tries really hard, the character they use will become nerfed. This panel of developers was asked if they felt that remark was true.
"Even after the game has been released and sold, we still continue to test the game. Often we find elements of the game that we may have overdone before the players have even begun their own research," said Sekine.

"We will adjust the problematic part at first during the balancing process, so as a result it may appear as though we have made the changes on behalf of the community's opinions," he expressed.

"However, we will never nerf a character simply because a specific player gets a 100-win streak, or because they use a certain character to win a tournament," concluded Sekine.

Another developer chimed in that in the end, they want the players to say they're strong — and not attribute the win to the character itself.

"If you look at the community's reaction, although there is a lot of commotion about strong and weak characters, but ultimately the player's strength decides who will win," stated Sekine.

This is just a small part of a very large and wonderful interview on 4Gamer's website, and you can check out the whole shebang here, which was translated by Zhi. Tip via Alioune.
