Street Fighter 5's two newest characters, Necalli and Vega, are both currently playable at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. GameSpot has jumped at the chance to try these fearsome fighters out and has since posted a piece sharing their impressions so far.

We learn that the savage red-ish headed fighter isn't the fastest character in the game, but does have an interesting way of getting through fireballs.

"Necalli isn’t quick on his feet, but makes up for this with a set of tools useful for maneuvering into an advantageous positions and capitalizing on them," GameSpot's article reads. "To close the distance, he has a lateral dash that ends with a scratching attack. Since this move has some armor, Necalli can take a normal, single-hit fireball without flinching, which is sure to keep Hadoken-happy shoto players in check."

The article compares Necalli to Abel, but mentions that the former is quite a bit slower than the French wrestler. Necalli has a similar, large damage output, though, and can end seemingly end games just as quickly.

According to GameSpot, Necalli is most effective as a heavy, reads-based character and can flourish with optimal punishes.
Moving on to Vega, we are treated to a solid recap of his claw and no claw modes. The former gives players the ability to fight a ranged game, while post claw removal Vega is much more rushdown oriented and is given access to new combos and special moves.

What's interesting, though, is that Vega's V-Skill and mode switch animations are similar in look, making for some interesting confusion tactics.

"The Spaniard's V-Skill, called the Matador Turn, functions as a dodge, which has an animation that is strikingly similar to the mode switch spin. This is by design, as it creates the opportunity to cause some confusion for players to take advantage of," GameSpot explains.

Traditional Vega players will have to forget a lot of what they know when playing him in Street Fighter 5, but with two different modes, there should be something for both character loyalists and newcomers to enjoy.
