It's been a while since SNK has been in headlines, and today we found out why. It has been reported that SNK Playmore has been acquired by Leyou Millenium.

The Chinese company purchased 81.25% of SNK's shares for $63.5 million, and the transaction was finalized in Osaka, Japan today. According to the CEO of Oriential Securities -- part of the joint venture with Shunrong Sanqi that invested in Ledo Millenium for this acquisition -- the main reason for this deal was to obtain the rights to SNK's IP and characters.

Leyou Millenium stated that they'd like to explore other forms of media rather than focus solely on games, comparing this business model to Marvel. A promise for more games, movies, and TV shows was made, so we'll be seeing our favorite SNK characters again in the future.

SNK is known for such fighting franchises as King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, and Fatal Fury, with their last big fighting title (King of Fighters 13) released back in 2010.
