This week in Smash tiers! Current top 10 characters in Super Smash Bros. 3DS, Marth among the best across three games

Last Thursday we here at EventHubs launched our Super Smash Bros. 3DS tiers section. Since its debut, our readers and Smash players alike have provided over 35,000 match-up votes, painting a clearer picture of which fighters are the strongest in Nintendo's handheld title.

Today we take a look at which 10 characters top the tier charts. Now, we're fully aware that this is only a week one list, but if you've been playing the game since it dropped last week (or picked up an early Japanese copy), you'll find that the current top picks definitely have reason for being up there.

Check it out for yourself by hitting the image below.

You'll notice that a few familiar, top-tier faces from previous Smash titles have already made their way to the top of the 3DS charts. On that subject, Fire Emblem's Marth has placed in the top 10 across all three Super Smash Bros. titles: 3DS, Brawl, and Melee. As it currently stands, he is the only character to sit among the upper echelon of characters in all three games.

There are, however, more fighters that are in Smash 3DS' top 10 that aren't exactly new to being top tier.
Below we have generated an image that shows the strongest characters in 3DS, Brawl, and Melee, side-by-side, for comparison's sake. You'll notice that there are a number of names color-highlighted to represent their recurring placements in the top 10. (For example: you can see Captain Falcon's name highlighted in light blue on the 3DS tier list. His name reappears on the Melee list, and we've used the same color to make it easier to spot multiple placings.)

Two of the Super Smash Bros. series' greatest characters -- Falco and Meta Knight -- are nowhere to be found on the 3DS chart. Fox, Melee's top dog, did make the cut in the latest version of Smash, but placed significantly lower coming in at #8.

Although some of the mightiest characters in past titles aren't shaping up to be as tough in this version, surprisingly, Sheik has made a triumphant comeback, currently voted the #1 character in the 3DS iteration. She ranked #2 back in Melee, but missed a beat in Brawl where she placed #22 in between Peach and Sonic.

Also, we see that 6 characters who have already secured a top 10 spot in either Brawl or Melee (or both) make up the 3DS list, along with 4 newcomers. Still, Brawl holds the record for most unique top tier fighters, only one of which is title exclusive (Snake).

The Super Smash Bros. 3DS tiers are still developing, but with the thousands of votes you wonderful folks out there in EventHubs land have cast, we're already beginning to see who the elite characters are. Now, if only I could find some top tier tactics to get Ness on to the list...
