PR Balrog demonstrates practical Red Focus combos for Evil Ryu and Balrog using the new USF4 PC mod

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • May 16, 2014 at 11:28 a.m. PDT

With KingBlackToof's most recent Ultra Street Fighter 4 mod for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 on PC having been released yesterday, EG|PR Balrog has put together a couple of quick examples of Red Focus combos for his characters, Evil Ryu and Balrog.

These setups all focus on hitting the grounded versions of their Ultras, (Balrog's U1 and Evil Ryu's full-animation U2), and each combo shown here should be completely practical once Ultra Street Fighter 4 drops.

Although the damage output on some of these combos is quite nice, please keep in mind that they may not reflect the actual damage found in USF4.

Hit the jump to check out PR Balrog's Evil Ryu and Balrog Red Focus combos.

I think for balrog, it's either character specific or that particular combo to be able to land red focus. Off the dash punch. I've tried everything with balrog and only got the overhead or the cl.hp. Ill look into that rush punch

I think ex red focus should scale a bit more... like, instead of scaling 20% as the regular focus does, it should scale 30% or something like this. Damage output is too high right now.

Evil Ryu gets more damage off of his Ex. Fireball actually, not sure about the other characters since some didn't have a reliable way to do it.

It isn't that high if you consider that it still takes 3 meters to perform. Using all 4 Gen has been able to get over 700 damage. Yun did hefty damage as well for using super into ultra. This only gives that option to the rest of the cast using this mechanic.

This. +1

Chars like yun or gen are getting less from rf because they already can do this with super.

The big buffs are for chars that can't combo into full ultra in v.2012. Like, bison, akuma, gief, etc.

Look at rog he can now do 593 damage hit confirmed combo. That's a big buf, not like yun.

Stop over reacting to yun rf combos. Please

I felt like i was watching the same combo roughly over and over again

Dirty Bull you actually have a chance to come out lol. E. Ryu's footsie game is going to be a lot scarier now. Now I can easily waste excess meter before losing a match and maybe get some damage in :p

gtfopanda said on May 16, 2014 at 1:24 p.m.

But is it really scarier? I mean 500 damage is sure handy, but it's still full revenge meter +3 stocks, and it seems like almost any character will be able to dish out similar damage output via Red Focus.

Assuming your execution is really good, off a cr.MK xx LK Axe FADC E. Ryu can already deal 382-408 damage (382 if you go straight into fierce DP, 408 if cr.MP xx Tatsu into fierce DP works).

This requires just 2 bars, builds quite a bit of meter, and doesn't need no revenge gauge, so it's available much earlier.

Considering other characters (see Balrog here) can deal almost 600 hundred and that everyone will be able to Red Focus into Ultra for high damage, one might even argue that E. Ryu's damage output isn't as impressive as before, compared to the rest of the cast.

It does in some ways homogenize the game for sure. It really depends on how you pick your poison but 500+ damage and a hard knockdown (although weaker) isn't that bad.

Evil Ryu can do almost 600, but he has to use ex fireball. This is an easier solution that does less damage.

hmm... really? I didnt know

Oh I've been meaning to ask but I forgot after I posted my previous reply: which combo involving EX fireball are you referring? Still involving Red Focus?

soggytoast said on May 16, 2014 at 4:19 p.m.

Fishing with xx light axe kick seems way too strong now. It's easy to hitcofirm the axe kick into red focus to score the Ultra. Being able to do it off of a counterhit or a jump in is one thing. But it's completely different when you can do it at max range during footsies.

They should definitely change the damage scaling rules so that red focus is weighted heavier than regular focus. Honestly, I think it will happen eventually once people realize how abusive this mechanic is.

That first Rog combo off the over head was already possible back in Super. Did they remove over head to lvl2 focus in AE or something?

Tru1yOdd said on May 16, 2014 at 4:56 p.m.

E. Ryu doesn't seem to gain much from red focus, but Balrog looks pretty good with it.

Chi_Shinobi said on May 16, 2014 at 5:49 p.m.

You try fishing for Cr Mk xx Lk Axe all day and see what happens.

ThaBigDaddyCMaster said on May 16, 2014 at 5:57 p.m.

Jump fierce, close fierce, ex fireball fadc U2, should do 582 if I'm not mistaken.

100+100+80+ 300 (302 or something like that).

582. I haven't done it in a while though.

tidestick said on May 16, 2014 at 8:08 p.m.

It's still possible just noone does it. I try to but I always mess it up or get hit out of the overhead.

devilcuco said on May 17, 2014 at 4:29 a.m.

Akuma can do,, s.hp redfocus ultra1 for 460 damage. Hit confirmed.

Or c.lp, c.lp, s.hp redfocus ultra1 for 390.

ERed focus geneijin to all of the cast for 3 bars. But people complain about the only char that already got it. Funny

Think outside the box. Please.
