Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS to have platform-specific trophies; 3DS trophies from handheld titles, and Wii U from console games

Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl added a mode that allowed players to gather a collection of trophies by completing different criteria. According to series creator Masahiro Sakurai, the trophies will be returning in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS titles.

Sakurai released a pic of the day this morning with a little bit of information regarding the trophy collection. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS will have platform-specific figures, and they will be relative to the hardware. Wii U will see trophies mostly depicting characters from other Nintendo home-console games, and 3DS trophies will come from other Nintendo handheld games.

Check out a screen shot showing one of Super Smash Bros. 3DS' trophies, and the message from Sakurai underneath it.

Nintendo needs to up their game and put in an a trophy/Achievement system on their console for replay ability and make people enjoy the game more. Just name it "U Achieve" or "Wiiments" for trophies unlocking.

Also add online(with dedicated servers) play in your games like All Mario games (worlds, kart racing,Party) and other release title that will have multiplayer on it. This shouldn't been a no brainer. Plus let people use Bluetooth mics with the options to only talk to people on your friends list and if they're new, than only way to talk to them is to get the parents permission and let them put their custom password for safety from crazy people out there. Problem solve

That mic suggestion is an option feature for those people who don't want their children talking to random people online and feel better knowing they can only talk to the people they know and feel comfortable with. But for those that don't care, can turn it off if the system isn't in parent control setting.

Nintendo (nor anyone else) doesn't need achievements. Their games were fun on the NES already without stuff like that.

I think these two games are being set apart so much is so that the player who enjoys one of them will have enough incentive to get the other, thus more revenue for Nintendo.

I never cared much for today's achievement/trophy chase, especially when they're nothing but a simple sentence. The 300 ACTUAL trophies (3D models with paragraph descriptions) I got from Melee were the perfect reward for exploring the game big and small.
I think more games should strive implement game-specific awards rather than fall back on tiny phrases for doing the obvious/arduous.

I know. I grew up around that time, but you got to remember times had change and games isn't the same like it was back of the day. Games today are too short, too easy, online base or half of the game is lock on the disc. Where as back in the day you had everything that was in the game (outfits, characters, extra modes, colors) plus more.

Adding in trophy's give players more options to do side challenges after beating the game the first time and don't get bore of it real fast.

Think about it... today's games, people are beating games (that isn't RPG base) really fast (6 to 8 hours) and get bore of it real fast without trying to enjoy the game. Now that achievements been implanted some people actually enjoy doing extra stuff to unlock those achievements and try to unlock all of them, what threw at us. For example: Rank & stats base games... you don't have to play rank style to enjoy the game but some people actually enjoy achieving stuff, which prolong their games.

So answer this... when people beat Mario 3D and Zelda WWHD and did everything in the game (got all of the stuff and did every secret) besides speed runners, what else can they do? Nothing cause they got bore of it already and put it on the shelf to collect dust.

I dig this! gives a lil more meat to the people who buy copies on both systems. you dont end up unlocking trophies you've already unlocked.

Meh. I really wish they would have just released a Wii U version alone. In every way possible, the 3DS version is taking away from the main version on Wii U.

As a proud owner of a 2DS I cannot wait for Smash. It may take a while moving away from GameCube button layout, but when it drops my life will be over, on-the-go.

If I remember correctly, I think the reason they decided not to do a Trophy/Achievement system has to do with just wanting players to just enjoy the game without having an achievement reward. (although my memory might be a bit hazy)

Most Nintendo fans were requesting it. But most people were just high-fiving for not having online for games like Super Mario 3D World. Even if we wanted to have mic options & even with the parental guide, but Nintendo of America intends to be sensitive or over-protective with the underage players after what happened when a little girl were communicating with 2 grown male players with swapnote & the little girl got raped which the 2 guys ended up in prison. As much as we want these communication, just be prepared for Nintendo of America for making decisions of not including extra online features.

Overall agreed.

The release is quite a ways off.

They're not done revealing the rest of the roster.

If I have to get SSB4 on my 3DS to play Chrom and/or the Avatar/MU, I'm going to be disappointed. I want to see him in Wii U HD. With feet.

Please, Nintendo. BibleThump
