Remix fundraiser currently $4,000 short of goal, UMvC3 3v3 charity event to be held this weekend ft. ChrisG, MarlinPie, RayRay, and more Shortly after his passing, a donation page was opened up to help fund Nelson "EMP|Remix" Reyes' funeral costs. As it currently stands, a little over $11,000 has been raised, and a slightly less than $4,000 still remains to be acquired in order to meet the $15k goal.

This weekend, Mashfest NYC & Defend the North are joining forces to bring us the Kings of New York Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 event. This will be a 3v3 team based tournament, and it will take place on Saturday, January 4. All of the profits will go to Remix's funeral funds.

There will be some great Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players teaming up to compete here, and you can find the full list of players after the jump.

Hit the jump to read more.

Brooklyn: AGE|NYChrisG, Crazy Joe, Jago

Manhattan: CTRL|Flux, CTRL|RayRay, Randomfiend

Bronx: BIFU|Insaynne, EMP|DragonGod, Reid

Also taking place that day is the Marvel Remix tournament being hosted at Super Arcade in Walnut, California. Players such as EG|Justin Wong, Combofiend, BT|Clockw0rk, AGE|Fanatiq, Mike Ross, EG|PR Balrog, coL|Filipino Champ, and plenty of others have been invited to compete.

Half of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Remix's fund raiser.

If you'd like to tune into these events, Arturo "TS|Sabin" Sanchez will be streaming Kings of New York, and IEBattleGrounds is handling the Marvel Remix event.

Glad both coasts can come together for a good cause.

SadisticSamurai said on January 2, 2014 at 7:38 p.m.

Since there's no pot bonus in the Remix tourney, It'll be nice to see Combofiend competing. Really missed seeing dem anchor Spencer comebacks in Mahvel!

i guess, they are borrowing the money. or still want the fans to cover it.

MrTimtastic said on January 2, 2014 at 7:57 p.m.

There are usually expenses that still need to pay off.

iMTopTier said on January 2, 2014 at 8:02 p.m.

he was buried yeah
but they still have to pay the full price that is 15k

spotlesseden said on January 2, 2014 at 8:07 p.m.

i already donated $50. But it's kind of sad to see an entire family doesn't even have 15k. US govn't need to fix Income inequality.

I haven't died recently but when did funerals start costing 15k? What a ripoff, I'd rather just get dumped in the McDonald's trash compactor. Better than making my family (or the FGC) shell out that kind of money.

soggytoast said on January 2, 2014 at 8:25 p.m.

Uh oh, drama unfolding. Looks like they didn't clear this with the family before setting up the event.

strider2k2 said on January 2, 2014 at 8:29 p.m.

It says right there that half of the proceeds will go towards Nelson's cause and the other half for Super Arcade. Let's not turn this into another dramafest. The FGC needs to be united and not argue over free/charitable money. Thank you.

evo546 said on January 2, 2014 at 8:42 p.m.

His only family member left is his grandma who is probably in her 70s. Do you think she have 15k.

MrTimtastic said on January 2, 2014 at 9:07 p.m.

It goes to Super Arcade in the form of venue fees like electricity and rent.

Emp needs to hire a public relations guy.....

nusense said on January 2, 2014 at 11:54 p.m.

Why than did they go after super arcade and Watts? When Watts wasn't even throwing the event, just hosting it. Yipes\Triforce made it out on facebook like watts was trying to use remix as a promotional tool to help super arcade when it wasn't even his event. The FB post says it all and that's why they deleted the post, but the screen grab puts them both on blast.

If the money is secured and he is buried. Why are their 2 other events besides marvel remix doing a charity stream.

HardToSayNo said on January 3, 2014 at 12:49 a.m.

its kind of sad because i remember how remix said he dropped all this money into EMP for investments or what ever, and now emp cant even help pay for his funeral...

lordgootecks said on January 3, 2014 at 12:53 a.m.

kinda messed up that watson is acting like he was close to remix and that marvelremix is a charity/fundraiser tournament. It's basically, the money that the winner gets is automatically donated to remix but he gets all his fees and lots of promotion over someone's death. it's a bit like selling your dish at a potluck dinner

MrTimtastic said on January 3, 2014 at 1:20 a.m.

It costs money to run events. Some of the money is used to pay bills that businesses often need like water, electricity, and rent. Watts hasn't even paid himself in months.

lordgootecks said on January 3, 2014 at 1:34 a.m.

can you imagine if markman asked for a cut of the money for those sticks he auctioned for phillipines relief? people would think that's ridiculous.
People were wondering why there's another donation link and why no one thought to talk to remix's friends or family about running this event, understandably. This causes him to get on a stream to call people who are grieving(!) gay slurs, and tell yipes to give him a formal apology by 10pm or else! such an epik troll XD
We all saw the blog about people not supporting the arcade and this event should really get people out, but he's trying to act like he's such a generous guy just for supplying a (paid) venue for this is...

Hey moron, Mad Catz wrote off the donation of those sticks in their taxes. That's what smart business minds do when they donate. You also don't need to get clearance from the family to hold an event in someone's honor, especially when you are not tarnishing their name/reputation and your intent is to give money to their family. The players are aware of the 50/50 split, and gave their money willingly. Those players could have stayed home and donated the full $10 entry fee to Remix's page if they didn't like the way it was set up.

F*cking drama queens have infested our community...

EnkiduV3 said on January 3, 2014 at 3:29 a.m.

What is Kings of New York then? It's okay when the East Coast does it, but when it's the West Coast it's shady?

From the Kings of New York charity tournament: "All of the profits will go to Remix's funeral funds."

What do you think "profits" means? It means the money left over after all operating funds have been deducted. That's the same thing that happened at Super Arcade.

Lockm said on January 3, 2014 at 4:50 a.m.

My condolations to Nelson Reyes his family and friends, losing a loved one is always difficult, may they find closure.

On another note, and this may seem extremely rude, but how does a funeral cost a ridiculous amount of $15.000? With a funeral caretaker, advertisments in the paper, funeral cards, transportation to funeral home, a coffin, displaying the body in the funeral centre, funeral car, cost of the actual burial, some coffee and cake an flowers etc. And you still have the annual costs for holding the burial place, depending on the cemetary. Something like this should not cost that much.

KristineR said on January 3, 2014 at 4:56 a.m.

2014 really should be the year of: handle your own problems and BUSINESS in the FGC and most importantly in LIFE. I truly am sorry to hear about Remix but as soon as he died the youcare and Justin tribute streaming donations and charity drives popped up. Now the holding hands period has worn off and now we got Mike Watson re-tweeting or saying that everything Triforces touches turns to crap and then people questioning the validity of this fundraiser and that one. I am sorry Remix died but back in the day it was the family/friends responsibilities on how to handle a person’s funeral. They didn’t have no internet to start no donation drive, no twitter or face book to basically beg. They made do with what they had and they moved forward. We as a generation should learn to do the same.

Lets be honest, as much as we see these guys travel, money match, gamble etc the community within-itself could have pooled its money together for the arrangements from both coast. Every time something goes wrong these players immediately run and hop on stream to start this donation drive stuff. When F champ wanted to go to VxG he did some donation drive. When F champ wanted money for Moons and Ray Ray to go to Evo or something he did a drive, Yipes wanted streaming equipment people sent him computers and gave him money. How are you going to be in something you refer to as a business but always have your hand out for something you need and want? Make do with what you have. Ask yourself, if something happened to you RIGHT now can you start donation drive and expect to get help? More than likely not, you will deal with it and move forward. People have many choices and options in dealing with situations, they just have to explore them.

I have been to four funerals in the last three years where people had no insurance and no money to bury their loved ones. They got money from various family and people who came to the funeral donated money to help with the cost. There were no questions asked about where the money was going because it was giving to the family at the funeral home. With this new age of begging via: social media and the internet in general its just become so bothersome, especially when people with less than stellar reputations are involved. Triforce is not the most well liked person around and Mike Watsom motives are being questioned. Top this off with the fact of: when you ask people for money you open yourself up to a lot of scrutiny.

The FGC and just people in general today, need to handle their own affairs. Remix was Triforces friend. The bottom line is Justin Wong, Mike Watson and god knows whomever else should have stayed out of it. Offer your condolences and when details were released about when the funeral was going to be held people could did a drive for 48-72 hours took the money sent it over to the funeral home or provided it to the family left it at that.

"I won't sit here and be a poser and claim me and Nelson were best friends, or even close to good acquaintances..."

Taken from Watson's blog (

KristineR said on January 3, 2014 at 5:13 a.m.

This blogged proved my point I made in my comments. If you are going through whatever you keep it to yourself. It’s your business. When you let everyone know your business you open yourself up to scrutiny and now everything you do is looked at; no matter how positive it maybe. Mike is going through his thing but because he has let everyone know in the known WORLD that super arcade is on "Thin Ice"

Now something that should be considered a kind gesture is looked at as he is trying to make money off of an unfortunate situation. Celebrities don't let this much information out about themselves and their profession consist of them being in the public eye.

Clamper said on January 3, 2014 at 5:20 a.m.

There's no reason to not help people out if you want to. Nobody's pointing a gun to your head and demanding money, if people WANT to help who are asking for help they're completely free to make this choice, or simply ignoring it.

I think this is the first time i've ever seen in my life people having fingers pointed at them cause they're trying to help someone.

TorTorVega said on January 3, 2014 at 5:43 a.m.

Why do people think that an event needs the family's permission? Groups of friends hold benefits for the family of the deceased all the time with or without the family's involvement. Then the family is given the money after. It's a nice way for friends and acquaintances to help out.

Never thought I'd see FGC drama over someone raising money for someone's family. Wow.

KristineR said on January 3, 2014 at 5:52 a.m.

No one is pointing the finger at anyone for helping people. If you took what I said as that then you sadly have not seen the users on this site posted links to comments of: Mike Watson saying everything Triforce touches turns to crap. Someone posted an Instagram picture of Triforce commentating saying something along the lines of Super Arcade was using this unfortunate situation as a promotional tool.

Someone died and you want to help but you have to see this sort of drama involved. This tarnishes the entire purpose of helping. I know those who donated, donated to help because they wanted to. The last thing you want to hear or even think is something bad.
This was un-necessary. There is a right and wrong way to do things. If you want to keep down drama then you either:
1. Handle your own business and not publicize it.
2. If you are going to do donations you do it in a proper way to keep down mass confusion.

That’s not finger pointing at people for trying to help, that’s stopping problems before they start. I don’t see why that would be a problem.

Taizuku said on January 3, 2014 at 5:54 a.m.

It's dumb that this is even a problem. People should be grateful they are receiving anything at all for nothing, but they will always find something to complain about, even while asking for a handout. "Really? Only a 5 dollar bill? Cheap ass"

RonaldRogan said on January 3, 2014 at 8:22 a.m.

Randomfiend is not Combofiend. He does play Spencer and he's really good--but not Peter Rosas.

Yipes begging for money for stream equipment..... ahahah how often does he stream... ZERO. Triforce burning down all the bridges for emp members, what a great business man!!

Tapion817 said on January 3, 2014 at 11:25 a.m.

IF you know how charities work, you would know that not all the donation money is donated and that they take the cost of the event/charity from them. This is how non-profit organizations function as well as any charity events. Even the Madcatz isn't donating all the money they make from the sticks. I spoke to MarkMan on twitter about it and he told me that they are donating the money after cost/fees with auction/Red Cross. I don't see anyone bitching and saying they are trying to make money off a natural disaster, because they aren't. Watson hosting an event is the same thing. There are costs that need to be covered.

RUSHDOWNSCRUB said on January 3, 2014 at 12:15 p.m.

its a damn charity for god's sake. watson didnt have to give anything to them but he chose to help instead of not doing anything you should be thankful he even wants to help out and give any ammount of money for the funeral expenses.

Watts response.

Sad that this has to be the one that isn't instantly successful when people are "earning" money to be sent to tournaments and buy personal equipment in a matter of hours, but you can't expect this sort of thing to work every time when the community is looking for free handouts left and right.

RUSHDOWNSCRUB said on January 3, 2014 at 3:03 p.m.

maybe to help out his family and from was was stated in a comment before remix's only relative is his grandmonther so i assume the money will go to her. its not like watson did this only to profit form remix's death. lets be honest watson could have just ran his help Super Arcade fundraiser and he would have still gotten the money that he got, instead he tries to help people by giving some of the money raised to them and people assume he tried to get some cash out of it.FOH

nusense said on January 3, 2014 at 3:33 p.m.

It's funny how triforce says "BURN IT DOWN" regarding the fgc. Yet he does donation drives to go to evo, donation drives to help get money to Jamaica to bury his mom,Donation drives to go to ugft, donation drive to get yipes steam equipment. Where do you think the money comes from THE FGC.

at least he asks for that and not like FChamp that asks for donation then uses the money to travel
