'Sagat is definitely not top 10 anymore, or even top 15' - Ryan Hart talks about Sagat's status in Ultra, Capcom Cup prospects and more

Next in our line of Capcom Cup participant interviews is the very first person who qualified for the event, the Prodigal Son himself, DIG|Ryan Hart.

In the interview, DIG|Ryan Hart discusses his feelings about Sagat in Ultra Street Fighter 4, his chances at Capcom Cup, and what he'd like to see next from Capcom. Find a small snippet below.
MajinTenshinhan: How do you feel about your competitive performance throughout 2014?

DIG|Ryan Hart: I feel happy about my performances during AE 2012, but ever since Ultra was released I've never been as strong, and my level has never been as high as during my time with the previous version.

The Sagat nerfs have really hurt my game, and this forces me to consider other characters which means that I ultimately have a watered down level with everyone due to the constant changing.

By the end of AE 2012, I felt that I fully understood all of my matchups with Sagat, but now I'm having a lot more difficulty with certain matchups that weren't as hard before. Of course, this is also due to their buffs (Evil Ryu, Rose, for example).

MajinTenshinhan: How do you feel that your character ranks compared to the other characters present in the Capcom Cup?

DIG|Ryan Hart: Hmm, let me see... Sagat is still a good character, but yes, uphill battles will be the majority. Even Zangief isn't free anymore.

MajinTenshinhan: Ono will be doing an announcement at Capcom Cup. What do you, personally, hope that Capcom will be revealing?

DIG|Ryan Hart: A completely new, fully 2 player revision of Street Fighter 1. Full Street Fighter 1 cast with an updated system, sick music and improved graphics.

MajinTenshinhan: Last time we spoke to you, it was still the previous version, AE v2012. Now, Ultra has been out for almost half a year. How do you feel about this new version?

DIG|Ryan Hart: The game is good, lots to explore and create. I'm just disappointed in how they changed Sagat.

MajinTenshinhan: At EventHubs, we have a tier listing based on public votes. In it, Sagat is placed in the bottom half, at place #26 at the time of writing, which seems a bit low considering the performances from you and Bonchan in Ultra. How do you, as a Sagat main, feel about this placing?

DIG|Ryan Hart: Sagat is a good character, but definitely not top 10 or even top 15. He floats around in the late teens or early 20s, for me.

MajinTenshinhan: Is there anyone you think should have qualified for the Capcom Cup but didn't make the cut?

DIG|Ryan Hart: There are many strong players who could be in this event that didn't make it. Kazunoko and GamerBee are two names that spring to mind. Smug, Dieminion, Andreas, Problem X and Alioune are all Capcom Cup level too, so it's not just Asian players who are missing.

MajinTenshinhan: Which player are you most worried about playing against at Capcom Cup? Also, who do you think will win the event?

DIG|Ryan Hart: I'm not worried about anyone. If I'm better and I do my homework, I will win. If I'm not as good, I'll lose - Simple! Just looking forward to it, really.

I don't really get to train offline (maybe once or twice a month) with strong players. I don't have many strong opponents online and my connection is bad sometimes, which mars my growth in training.

I don't have an amazing arcade community like the Japanese, nor do I have a top tier character or an unusual or new character that can surprise people, nor have I had enough time to research all of the opponents, or use training mode, or learn matchups, due to being busy outside of gaming this half of the year (I think the nerfs enforced some of the disinterest in the game for me). So, I'm well aware that I basically don't have the advantage in any area going into this.

However, with that said, I must accept that if I am knowingly using a weaker character, I have a responsibility to work harder and be the difference maker, no excuses! Losing is not OK, just because your character is weaker. Each player that plays to win has that responsibility, because each character is available to everyone. With that said, I will be bringing the fight to whoever steps in my way at Capcom Cup 2014.

Who is going to win? I'm no fortune teller. Let's do this!

May the best man and character combination win!

Big thanks to DIG|Ryan Hart for agreeing to do this interview with us, and best of luck to him next weekend at Capcom Cup.
