'I’m not worried playing against anyone; all I know is that I want to beat Bonchan' - PR Balrog talks Capcom Cup plans and who he thinks will win

We continue our road to Capcom Cup interviews with another one of the Evil Geniuses qualifiers. Tonight, we hear from Eduardo "PR Balrog" Perez.

In this interview, PR 'Rog discusses which players he feels should have qualified for the Capcom Cup, but didn't, how Balrog in Ultra Street Fighter 4 compares to his past iterations, and more.

Below is just a snippet of our interview to get you started, but be sure to hit the jump for the full thing.
DreamKing: How do you feel about your competitive performance throughout 2014?

PR Balrog: At the start of the year, when AE 2012 was still out, I was performing very good. But after USF4 came out, I haven’t been performing as well as I want to, plus there are so many good players in this version that it’s hard to keep up, especially in tournaments. Even though the game might look the same, the small buffs and nerfs that were added change the game a whole lot.

One of the things that I got hurt by was that the game became too defensive, and of course being an aggressive player in this version doesn’t seem to be a good idea, but I will never change my style.
DreamKing: How do you feel that your character ranks compared to the other characters present in the Capcom Cup?

PR Balrog: Honestly, I think Balrog is the same as his other versions, maybe a little bit better now. Either way, I still think he’ll never be a top tier character because of how linear he is, but still a good 2/3 tournament character nonetheless. A lot of players now punish rush punches, and that might be the reason that he’s barely used now, but he’s mid-tier still. Not so strong/not so weak.

DreamKing: Ono will be making an announcement at Capcom Cup. What do you, personally, hope that Capcom will be revealing?

PR Balrog: I hope he announces a new title. I think the community is getting tired of SF4 since the game is a little bit too defensive, aside from Yun. Also, I like that feeling of getting a new game. Everyone starts from the scratch, which makes all the players try to find new tech all the time.

DreamKing: Is there anyone you think should have qualified for the Capcom Cup but didn't make the cut?

PR Balrog: I think it would’ve been cool to see HORI|Sako and PIE|Smug in Capcom Cup because they’re both flashy and they always have the ability to comeback.

DreamKing: Which player are you most worried about playing against at Capcom Cup? Also, who do you think will win the event?

PR Balrog: I’m honestly not worried playing against anyone, but all I know is that I want to beat Bonchan, and even if I don’t get to him, I will still try to play him on the side. I think either Daigo because he’s really strong or Infiltration [because he] can never be counted out.

DreamKing: After Topanga World League in April, you talked about Balrog not being good enough to compete at a top level. Do you still stand by these statements, more than half a year later?

PR Balrog: Yes. He’s able to compete on a 2/3 tournament [level] just because he’s a good defensive/offensive wall, but when it comes to long sets, he doesn’t excel since he doesn’t have anything scary, and he capitalizes on the player's mistakes, which is rare for top players in a long set.

DreamKing: Three of your fellow EG players have also qualified for the Capcom Cup. If you happen to run into any of them during the tournament, which of your teammates do you feel most confident against and why?

PR Balrog: I think it depends. We all can beat each other. I feel we are all momentum based players, and whoever gets into that zone, then that player will prevail. I can counter all three of them, but I can’t say I’m super confident against them. [Incoming collusion jokes] :D

A huge thanks to Eduardo for taking the time to talk to us here at EventHubs.
