'Blanka has to be the weakest character present at Capcom Cup' - Nishikin talks about his character choice, chances at Capcom Cup and regional skill

Capcom Cup is drawing closer and closer each day, and one of the less-traveled participants is Japan's Blanka expert Nishikin, bringing all the more character variety and skillful play to a tournament which is already stacked both with different characters and high-level players.

If you're curious as to what this jungle beast-lover had to say, you can find a quick snippet below.
MajinTenshinhan: How do you feel about your competitive performance throughout 2014?

Nishikin: This year has been my most successful year, results-wise, since I started playing fighting games, so I'd say that I'm very satisfied with my performance.

MajinTenshinhan: How do you feel that your character ranks compared to the other characters present in the Capcom Cup?

Nishikin: Blanka has to be the weakest character of all the characters present in Capcom Cup, don't you think? Haha.

MajinTenshinhan: Ono will be doing an announcement at Capcom Cup. What do you, personally, hope that Capcom will be revealing?

Nishikin: Personally, I'd be happy to see a new Street Fighter game.

MajinTenshinhan: Outside of Japan, the general perception is that Japan's scene is the strongest, and by quite a wide margin. But what's the Japanese fighting game scene's view on the other scenes, such as the U.S. and Europe?

Nishikin: For a long time, I felt that Japan was the strongest region in the world. But, now loads of strong players have begun popping up all over the world, so it's hard to decide which region is actually on top now. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

MajinTenshinhan: A lot of people have considered Blanka a fairly weak character in the Street Fighter 4 series. What was it that drew you to him?

Nishikin: Why I picked Blanka... Well, he was the first character I used in the game, and when I started playing I felt like he was simple and easy to use. Hmm... I guess you could say that I chose him on instinct, haha.

MajinTenshinhan: Blanka is a fairly unusual choice, so many players might not have much experience against him. Do you think that this will help you against some of the strong characters you'll be facing in Capcom Cup?

Nishikin: Oh no, I think everyone at the Capcom Cup will be coming fully prepared with counter-strategies for Blanka. I don't think it'll give me any kind of advantage.

MajinTenshinhan: Is there anyone you think should have qualified for the Capcom Cup but didn't make the cut?

Nishikin: No, I think the roster looks pretty appropriate. Actually, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm really fit to be part of it... Haha.

MajinTenshinhan: Which player are you most worried about playing against at Capcom Cup? Also, who do you think will win the event?

Nishikin: I'd have to say that I don't want to fight EG|Momochi. Not only is his character stronger than mine, but I also lack confidence in the Ken matchup, so I feel my chance of success would be pretty low...

Also, I don't have any idea about who will end up winning. Looking at the participant list, every single player is a strong victory candidate, so...

A huge thanks to Nishikin for agreeing to do an interview with us here at EventHubs.
