Gamers asked for male DoA5 costumes, but they ended up buying the bathing suits What people say they'll do, and what they actually do are often two different things.

An example of this happened recently with the Dead or Alive 5 series, as gamers outside of Japan asked for costumes for the male characters, feeling the game could use some more variety in that aspect.

What they actually bought though were the bathing suit outfits, which cater to the sex appeal that the series has become well known for. Hit the jump to read on.
"With the DOA series, the bathing suits seem to have been popular with Japanese gamers while overseas a lot of people say 'give us male character costumes!' However, once we release the game, it turns out the bathing suits sell quite a lot overseas as well," said Yosuke Hayashi, who is DoA5U's director.

"Everyone is just trying to save face, but the numbers are honest," added Hayashi.

It's a good lesson to take home, just because your customers say they'll do something doesn't mean they actually will.

Just as some subscribers of Playboy say they read the magazine for the articles, this is another case where the statements don't always match up with the facts.
