A million and counting: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's sales continue to grow

When Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was released, it was met with a rather lukewarm reaction, and somewhat sluggish sales.

Coming in about 9 months after the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3, many people were turned off by the quick turnaround of a second game, and sales were less than expected.

UMvC3 initially managed to move 600,000 copies four months after it's November 2011 release, but former VP Christian Svensson said the title continued to sell actively, and Capcom recently updated some of their sales numbers to back this up.

As of September 30, 2013, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has sold 1,100,000 copies, meaning it pulled in an additional 500,000 in sales over the last 19 months, which is pretty good for a game that's almost two-years-old now.

While these sales aren't going to blow the doors off Capcom HQ, they are a strong sign that there's a considerable amount of interest in this franchise still. Hit the jump to read on.

Capcom recently said that they're interested in working on UMvC3 again, but that budget concerns are a major obstacle to overcome.

It's likely that these strong sales after release, along with continued support from the fighting game community, are heavy contributing factors as to why Capcom is interested in updating UMvC3 again.

Things have been quiet since Capcom's Yoshinori Ono dropped that message at San Diego Comic-Con, and only time will tell if they can get the funding together to get an update to UMvC3 green-lit.

A poll we ran on the site said that almost 50% of our users would be willing to contribute to a crowdfunding project, while another 20% were open to the possibility.
