I love this game but these season passes are pig crap.

thats kinda cheap for 4 characters though?

Dark_Obliske said on March 21, 2013 at 8:53 a.m.

i dont mind season passes since i know every game in the future will require one

flysamurai said on March 21, 2013 at 8:54 a.m.

There's so much more they could do with DLC for this game. Costumes are cool, but what about some new story arcs?

Hexelf said on March 21, 2013 at 8:55 a.m.

I like the added incentive of actually getting something immediately as part of the deal, but a season pass on launch day kinda makes me want to put the game on hold for a while.

cadnexus said on March 21, 2013 at 8:55 a.m.

4 upcoming characters? I wonder who they are. that's 28 total not bad

gosoxtim said on March 21, 2013 at 8:59 a.m.

wait does the season pass come with game when you preorder it or you have to buy it online

Aluppoj said on March 21, 2013 at 9:03 a.m.

Lol. It means......Pre planned, Pre produced, Stored on their servers, Stored on your HD, DLC characters.

But at least it's not on the disk right?

I have no anger toward Neitherrealm (or Capcom) in regards to DLC practices, rather our community's "lie to us better, hide content better." Mentality.

Roge9 said on March 21, 2013 at 9:03 a.m.

When they did that with MK, the used game price just went down by the price of the pass. So for offline players and TO's could actually benefit from this lol

SnakeX said on March 21, 2013 at 9:08 a.m.

So much for those crusaders that claimed NRS wasn't going to do DLC or "pre-plan" everything. Not that this was the first time we knew about DLC anyway. Nor does it matter, DLC is DLC regardless of where it's stored or when it's made but I find it hilarious how bent out of shape people get about "bad" DLC practices.

You're confusing a season pass with an online pass. The season pass is basically a "pay this price now, get some stuff later" deal for DLC. It does not come with the game.

Villest1 said on March 21, 2013 at 9:11 a.m.

So whats up with the alt. costume dlc? Only select characters get alts? Thats kind of stupid...

W.e. I just preordered my copy and I cant lie, I will most likely be getting the season pass as well.

PowerBeard said on March 21, 2013 at 9:16 a.m.

The games almost at launch and they have some characters in the works, season pass makes buying all 4 cheaper while In the Capcom world 1200mp would be 1 and a half characters not 4 and they're not forcing you to get the pass

I am really starting to hate video game companies that do this season pass bull.

Bulletwithbatwings said on March 21, 2013 at 9:20 a.m.

I'll take anything else they give, and $15 for 4 characters and costumes is a competitive price, when compared to what others are charging for similar content. I just hope that they add some more female characters. So far the game is 80% male, and DC has strong women, so there's no reason to leave them out of the game. Starfire, Black Canary, Katana, Power Girl, Talia, Barda, and I haven't even touched upon the "girl" versions of male characters. Any 2 of these would be awesome. The other two could be Martian Manunter and Lobo, the 2 most requested (it seems) characters.

enagamer said on March 21, 2013 at 9:22 a.m.

Think I'd rather pay for only the characters I'd want after they've released, instead of blindly giving away money.
@12 Capcom gave 4 characters and an update for 1200msp

mario3d said on March 21, 2013 at 9:23 a.m.

Final roster with 28 chars? we buy without knowing who they are?
and remember the final boss.

Bulletwithbatwings said on March 21, 2013 at 9:26 a.m.

When I was a kid, I paid $82 for Justice league task force, a fighting game with very little story and only 9 characters. That's $9.11/character. When you compare that to Injustice + season pass, you now get 28 characters for $75, or $2.67 per character. We also get a 15 hour story mode, alternate costumes, multi-level destructible stages, etc. There really is no reason to complain.

BlankaBeast said on March 21, 2013 at 9:27 a.m.

No word on the WiiU?

Probably the word is nothing will be coming out for it since no one is buying it.

PowerBeard said on March 21, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.

#16 yeah if you updated through console it was like but they also sold a hard copy for 40$ but if you don't buy this season pass then you can still play on the same update as everyone else while if you didn't buy the 4 characters in AE then you couldn't play AE you'd be in super where you don't have any updated characters either. A marketing technique that basically forces you to buy the characters in a way. While NRS puts the characters up as an option and you can still play and download updates without these characters. No new games and what not. (Like MK9, Super MK9, etc....)

ReddChief said on March 21, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.

@#12 & 13 lol
Capcom has never forced me to pay for any kind of pass and the last DLC characters i bought from them was SFxT SIX whole characters for $12.00 nice try tho

SilentBob said on March 21, 2013 at 9:31 a.m.

Wait, didn't they say like two days ago that alts would be unlocked using XP? I can let it slide for costumes because it's esthetic, but 15$ for DLC characters is complete bulls*t. Either put the characters in the game, or delay release to finish them. This is downright screwing with customers.

Season passes aren't the future. It's only a matter of time before the majority of people realize they're paying for a product with features stripped away on purpose so they can sell them to you later or sell you pay-to-win items. Games are definitely not worth $60 these days. If they want this business model, they need to reduce the price of games or just stop doing this on launch DLC crap. It's like buying a car, it's fully equipped, but you need to pay for some unlock code in order to use the air conditioning even though it's already installed in your car.

How can some indie developers make complete quality games, with often free updates with added features, and make so much profit by selling their games at $10-$20 while a big company can sell you an incomplete game for $60, sell you the rest to make it complete at an extra, sell 20 times the amount of copies an indie game sells and still complain they don't make enough profit?

handsofgod said on March 21, 2013 at 9:33 a.m.

I am not one to care for companies practices with dlc and I never got why the community hated on it so much, I thought it was pretty damn k that I could still play people who had sfxt and didn't buy the "super" version. Sf4 was a vibe kill for that but I totally understand why games are built like this it's simple as black and white. I hope this game does well but I don't think it's my cuppa tea. I'm excited to give it a go but I only main sf games and right now I am very happy with sfxt it's my new sf4 lol

Roge9 said on March 21, 2013 at 9:33 a.m.

actually wait, didn't know about the 4 character

jtir123 said on March 21, 2013 at 9:34 a.m.

I'm for this. Value is good. It's not totally outrageous, and season pass means you get all potential DLC. I like to know that I get 4 characters and potentially more.

SilentBob said on March 21, 2013 at 9:37 a.m.

Because back in the day carts were extremely expensive, compared to disks that cost 10 cents to produce, not many people had the knowledge to create games, programming was way harder than it is now, all their code had to be as optimised as possible to fit in the very tiny amount of memory carts, which is rarely a problem these days considering the amount of badly optimised games now, and video games were a way smaller market back then so they really had no choice but to raise prices in order to make any profit at all. Technology has evolved so much that anyone can make a video game from their bedroom now, which wasn't possible at all back then. So you can't compare prices of today with prices from the 90s due to how it evolved so much, but considering everything, they should be cheaper than they are now.

SnakeX said on March 21, 2013 at 9:40 a.m.

This blind hate post has it all. Capcom hate? Check. Massive exaggerations and lies? Check. Using justifications like "you don't have to buy it" and "every company does this" that would for sure be flamed at if it were a Capcom game? Double check!

That is some weird ass justification logic you've got running there. No reason to have to defend wanting to buy the season pass to begin with, but you went way out of your way. Why did you pay 82 dollars for a SNES game? Why are you using your personal overblown purchase as reason for no one else being allowed to complain? The questions can go on and on.

Does the WiiU even do DLC? Honest question. I have no idea.

Dude, did you even play any SNES games? Trust me, not every game was "optimized". There were tons and tons of janky and poorly made games in that era. Tons.

handsofgod said on March 21, 2013 at 9:40 a.m.

1200 not bad I'm in.

SilentBob said on March 21, 2013 at 9:49 a.m.

There's a difference between bad code and optimisation. You can have extremely good logic in your code, but have it being too resource heavy just like you can have very optimised code that will save you a ton of memory yet still have bugs. SNES memory required you to save as much lines of code as possible and doing so in freakin' machine code. Now developers just half ass everything because they barely have any limitation at all, unless they're building an engine from the ground up which is extremely rare now.

They have been for ages, but no one has been really able to distribute them successfully before quite recently. You could make a game from your bedroom in the past, but you'd need to buy some engine or use a console dev kit which is expensive as hell. Now you have a crap load of free resources available to everyone and you could easily make a quality game for extremely cheap with a very small team only working on your spare time without wasting a few years of your lives and distribute it through the world with the internet for pennies.

Not quite Namco where they gave us everything for free in TTT2 but it's good enough.

That's probably what some folks here aren't happy about and while I'm ok with a season pass I can understand where they're coming from, I think DLC should always be free because well come on guys we already payed for the game ya know?

There's also a matter of games that have DLC that can only be accessed online and companies decide to shut down the servers so you literally wasted money if you bought that stuff, the game itself probably isn't worth buying anymore because of this, the best example of this is MGS4.

Ninjagoon said on March 21, 2013 at 10:13 a.m.

Why is everybody just assuming its content they are holding back? So what if its pre-planned,that doesn't mean they already have the characters finished. They might not even know yet who they're gonna make dlc. All this means is that for the people who want the game and the future characters, they have an option to get them in advance, that's it. Stop assuming things, yall are ruining the game for yourself.

Where the hell do you live? I bought that same game when it was released for the Sega Genesis for $49.99. You were ripped off big time.

Cinderkin said on March 21, 2013 at 10:21 a.m.

Because it is. These developers do not spend the following six months of a release making more content for said game. They do it before the game comes out so that they can move on to new projects.

They stagger the release dates of content to fool you into thinking that they are making it as they churn it out.

Most developers do this and NRS is no exception. Capcom does it too although they have different teams working on different things.

If NRS was still supporting MK9 when those 4 DLC characters where being drip fed to us, then the games online would have been fixed in the process. They never worked on making MK9 better because they were too busy working on Injustice to care.

TheShadowDancer6 said on March 21, 2013 at 10:22 a.m.

EvilRick said on March 21, 2013 at 10:25 a.m.

Season pas... hmmm... I don't like buying stuff when I don't know what it is so I think I'll pass. :p

On a side note, so yeah we already knew they would be making DLC characters (Ed Boon and Hector Sanchez said it) but we didn't kne whow many. 4 is a decent number of DLC characters IMO, just like they did on MK9, so I believe it's ok. If they're really listening to fans request, then Static must be one (I'm not saying lobo because if Ares is an unplayable final boss then Lobo still has a chance to be in the initial release).

Also, and before any smart-ass comes onto me for my toughts on DLC (Which had not changed btw) I'm gonna clearefy that I won't be falling for your childish game and that unless you can prove it and back-up your arguments with a reliable and official source, any "Pre planned, Pre produced, Stored on their servers" comment or argue will be taken by me with a grain of salt, as much as it angers you.

compbros said on March 21, 2013 at 10:40 a.m.

That's a different beast though. This is "you can spend 15 bucks now for this content planned or you can pick and choose where, if you were to buy it all, would be 20+ bucks" as opposed to "we have 12 characters completed on the disc that you can spend 20 bucks to be able to play at a designated time".

And yes, this is pre-planned, of course it is, it has to be as it takes 6 weeks (according to NRS) to develop a characters outfit, movelist, record, etc...and put them in the game. This is before having to look at any rebalancing or devoting resources to patching things after the games release.

At this point they probably have some concept art and a rough idea of a movelist for these characters.

I am not a big fan of DLC in general, but I hate season passes because you have no clue what you are getting. I was just responding to some saying that we are making assumptions about how this content is made.

I also think it's sad that people are ok with spending $15 for 4 characters, but thought Capcom charging $20 for 12 was over the line.

Whether it's on disc or on my hdd it's still held back content of a game that I didn't get when I purchased it.

I will rent the game and enjoy it for what it is, and when the complete edition comes out I will buy it up if I enjoyed my rental. I haven't put anyone down for buying DLC or for wanting said DLC.

It is a forum. People will ALWAYS complain about things. I myself have been weak willed a couple of times and crabbed about this or that. Most people who are complaining are just complaining to have someone hear their nonsense. Like saying your going to wait for it to go to the bargain bin, fine do that, I have no problem with that. Or people who have an issue with this season pass, I am going to get it and enjoy this game to it's fullest. I have pre ordered the battle edition, have my plan set to change out the buttons to clear seimitsu, I am going to buy the crap out of the season pass, and I am going to play it till my fingers bleed. I have very high hopes for this game and a couple of goof balls who try to tell me that because other people attack this game or that game that I should feel bad because I'm a hypocrite and ignorant is insane. If I had some medals I would give them to you guys for being stand up FGC citizens.

You got ripped off, that game was $50 retail in 1995. Even for its time that was a pretty crappy game.

Cinderkin said on March 21, 2013 at 10:47 a.m.

While I agree with the first paragraph of what you are saying. The pay $15 for the pass or individual for $20 makes sense in theory, but the season passes never go away. You can still to this day buy the MK9 season pass for $15 even though all the content is out. I don't know anyone who is buying the DLC at full price individually.

There would be more of an incentive if the season pass was a timed buy system. It's not and ends up being a way for them to get money before releasing the content. 9/10 if you wait for all the content to be released the season pass ends up on sale for less anyway.

compbros said on March 21, 2013 at 10:50 a.m.

Yeah, I get the point of waiting, I'm just talking about the SFxT vs. Season Pass thing and their differences. Not about how well done/stupid the season pass is.

From one of the producers regarding the DLC already being done or close to done:

"nope, barely started working on the first one now. They will be just as good, diverse, and fun to use as the previous game's dlc."

T3rror said on March 21, 2013 at 10:51 a.m.

Just because they announce a season pass doesn't mean the characters are finished. The same thing was done for MK9. As for SFxT debacle. People were upset with capcom because the characters were found on the disc yet they were originally planning to make console users wait 6 months to download them. Most sensible people weren't angry about them being on the disc, but about making console users wait 6 months so that they can be on the vita first then release on consoles.

Snake_Eyes said on March 21, 2013 at 10:51 a.m.

this better not be it for DLC, they said this game would have more DLC then MK, right now, even with this "season pass" added, this game would have as many characters with DLC as MK had at LAUNCH! starting to get dissapointed with this game leading up to release :( there is no reason why they could not include way more characters, they dont have to worry about the fatalities and stuff like they did with MK and they had the frame work from MK so I figured this game would blow MK away in terms of content but right now it seems like it'll have a lot less

@65 iMTopTier :
I was waiting for someone to say that lol. The difference between SFxT Disc Locked Characters and Injustice DLC characters are SFxT are characters we've been playing for years, except the Tekken ones are redone for 2d gameplay, but still none of those are really new characters (all of those should of been in from the start because you're also buying characters already on SSF4 AE except Elena and Tekken cast). Injustice DLC characters are ALL brand new.

IareBeStayDrunk said on March 21, 2013 at 11:31 a.m.

Anyone comparing these prices to SFxT have a very bad memory. All of the Dlc was 99percent finished before their deadline/launch (they could have postponed the game a week and had those 12 chars be a part of the game). So it was your 20 bucks for literally nothing. Ive been using Dlc chars since the first week, I didnt spend a dime for it.

gammabolt17 said on March 21, 2013 at 11:32 a.m.

Holy sh!t. THIS so much. This is no different than having the characters on disc like they did with SFxTK. On top of that, its 15 bucks for 4 characters, when SFxTK had 20 bucks for 12.

Ignorant retard my ass. None of what you talking matters. For whaatever reason, those SFxT characters were PLANNED to be DLC, just like these Injustice characters are. The delivery method does not matter.

Of course they wouldn't say the characters were done...they're off disc and you can't prove a thing, so people are just extra gullible for Boon and crew just like they are for Harada. The sentiment is exactly the same: withhold some content and charge for it. It's is no less black and white than when everybody goes off at Capcom for this sort of thing. This is business and they have/need to do it, because that's just the flow of things now. Stop making up excuses why its alright for certain people to pull certain DLC bullsh!t and just realize that the concept of DLC itself is just fvcked up in general. This is exactly why they can get over with it, because people are willing to be pissed on as long as they're told it's just raining.

EvilRick said on March 21, 2013 at 11:32 a.m.

@65 Well, if you take in consideration that from those 12, 5 are basically copy-paste models from SSFlV and that there you're forced to buy them all and here you can buy only those you want... kinda of a notable diference.

@ 82

I'm pretty sure AugustAPC is female, but I agree that She is being quite the hypocrite.

The DLC is the same as what Capcom did. It's just the delivery method is different.

Razberryclownsac said on March 21, 2013 at 11:43 a.m.

@11 It will most likely be like MK. Every character has one unlockable alt (probably by beating arcade mode) then some (maybe all) will have more alts per DLC, such as the Red Sons and Arkham City skins

Nope. I just support companies that use DLC the way it was meant to be, by continuing to develop content after their game goes gold.

*sigh* It's just amazing how oblivious you guys can be. SFxT never had any DLC. DLC = DOWNLOADABLE content, and by extension, CONTENT THAT WAS CREATED AFTER RELEASE TO CONTINUE SUPPORT OF A GAME.

I'm done with you guys. Capcom doesn't even have to try with you guys. They give some limp-dick explanation like, "We put our "DLC" characters on disc so people won't have to download a patch to play them." and you guys eat it up. All they're really saying is, "We cut 12 characters that we've already finished from the game so we can charge $80 for our game without having to continue developing after we release it."

SqueakyBloom said on March 21, 2013 at 11:56 a.m.

I also want to add, besides supporting this game by buying the DLC, NetherRealm also is listening to what characters the players want, where as other studios already know what characters they are going to add as DLC, and that alone justifies supporting them for listening to us.

Villest1 said on March 21, 2013 at 11:58 a.m.

@12 Didnt Capcom just sell 12 characters for like 20$ in SFxT? What the hell are you talking about? And weren't the original 4 additional AE characters only 15$ as well?

theshredder39 said on March 21, 2013 at 12:25 p.m.

Thinking about it Boon did say at one point to expect a guest character so I'm assuming said guest character is either in the game but is being kept secret til close to the release (They did this with Kratos in MK9 as well.) or the guest character will be the last DLC character.

Jon Carmack would like to have a word with you.

Oh, also, everything you said about indie game development reeks of ignorance.

Yes: A few people in their spare time CAN make FANTASTIC games (IE: Minecraft, Skullgirls). They can also make very successful games with almost no real value (IE: Angry Birds). But can they make Injustice?

Don't like a game? Don't buy it. Don't like a game's DLC? Don't buy it. Hate on games with DLC on principle? Don't buy those games. In fact, stop buying games right now forever, or ONLY buy indie games for $0.99 each. Would you be happy then?

You seem to be implying that because a few people in their spare time can make games for a few pennies each that aren't bad, every game company should adopt this model.

So in your opinion, the entire industry should collapse and operate on non-profit? You're saying there are no need for games like Halo, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Smash Brothers, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Soul Calibur, Tekken, etc etc for eternity etc? These games all REQUIRED large companies and huge mass marketing/money to get made.

If you're saying companies should just stop TRYING to make money, then you know what? Make your own game and give it away for free. In fact, never work a day in your life. Donate all your time to charities and slowly starve to death alone in the street.

Or if you don't think game developers should do the same? Re-think your position. Start using your head, because being angry at companies like NR and Capcom for trying to make money isn't getting you anywhere with me or anyone else who has even the slightest bit of maturity and a working brain.

@89 A guest on a comic book based game? Nye..... I really don't like the sound of that to be fair, altough I admit, they could bring let's say... Scorpion from Mortal Kombat and add some story arch taking the events from MK-vs-DCU as starter point. That would be somehow cool.

alfarin said on March 21, 2013 at 12:42 p.m.

I'm fine with DLC season passes, and I did buy the MK9 one so providing this game is good I'll likely get this one too. Assuming it's $5 a pop per character, that's 4 for the price of 3 soo.....

Congratulations. You have made an post with absolutely no relevancy to the discussion at hand!

Seriously, the idiocy just makes me so curious. Are you trolling or are you really that dumb?

VegaBisonAbel said on March 21, 2013 at 1:22 p.m.

I can't even imagine the cost of making Injustice to begin with. Skull girls had a budget of like 150k per character or something like that...can you imagine the cost of aquiring DC characters and making characters off of them?
I'm not saying I agree with this season pass, as I don't know much about it, but you guys gotta see it from netherrealms perspective, they gotta gain their money somehow.

SilentBob said on March 21, 2013 at 1:22 p.m.

So you're throwing away my whole argument by using a single exception from 1989 to 2000-ish? Of course there will be exceptions, but my main point is that it's way easier and cheaper to do now than it ever was.

So you're comparing a mobile game optimised so that everyone with a smartphone can use (so only touchscreen controls and low resource usage) saying it's low value to a game with very high resource limitations that uses buttons allowing you more gameplay possibilities? Of course you can't compare those. Different possibilites, different market. Though you do say just before that indie game devs also made Skullgirls which is a good fighting game. Are you contradicting yourself or are you just being elitist towards "bigger" companies?

Who's talking about running games non-profit? I sure haven't. The gaming industry was doing perfectly well before they, not all of course, started stripping parts of the games out to sell them to you as DLC or offering micro-transactions. Now they're just getting greedy and eventually it will blow up in their face. SimCity being the best example right now.

Your game examples are also awful. Most of them were doing perfectly well when they were releasing complete games and some of those in that list still do and have no DLC.

Also I've never talked about making a game and giving it away for free. I'm talking about how today it's a lot easier for anyone to make a decent game without spending too money on it and production costs being a lot lower than they used to. If they can easily profit from the lower prices on Steam and Steam sales, why can't they sell games for $40 instead of $60?

Now next time you go crazy, be sure to read every single word someone said, don't twist their words and make sure you understood what it says.

The main problem with companies these days is management. They have a ton of incompetent people in the field, most of them do nothing every day and have 6 digit salaries. This isn't just the gaming industry, it's pretty much everywhere now.

AugustAPC said on March 21, 2013 at 1:24 p.m.

For the record, I purchased SFxT on day 1, as I've done with dozens of Capcom games since the SNES era. I will continue to buy their games as well, but I will never support any attempt to charge for disc-locked content. I don't care if its NRS, Namco, ASW, Tecmo or anyone else. Exploitation is exploitation. DLC is fine, free or otherwise as long as "DLC" doesn't stand for disc-locked content.

okay said on March 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.

Is this "discount" on the DLC characters supposed to make us happy? The fact that there is paid for DLC characters in their plans even before launch day changes my decision to purchase the game.

ForTheViolence said on March 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.

so what if they are planning to do dlc? As long as they aren't selling you content that's already made it's ok. its 2013, do you really think developers don't plan to support their game with new content later? don't be so foolish and jaded. If they didn't give us DLC you would all whine and bitch for it anyway just like "Bring us AE 2013, spooby plz!!!!" blah blah blah, after you all bitched every time their was a new update. you all just have to find something to cry about huh?
